Piggy in Space!

Looking a bit like the strange planet version of Lord of the Flies, The Obsidion Collective’s first feature is a “harrowing tale of five young adults that find themselves stranded further from home than they ever thought possible. Everything goes wrong for the children as the comforts of home grow increasingly distant and the technologies they rely so heavily upon fail just as painfully as their hopes of ever getting back.”

Apparently the group arrives via a some sort of gate (a la Stargate); the young lads must learn to survive as they try to find a way home. Interesting premise, but the trailer smells a bit cheesy.

is this a series or a movie? it feels a lot like Stargate meets Lost for teens. if it is, I want to shoot a lot of people right now.

Cheesy for sure. Estimated chances for logar viewing: 0%.

5 bucks its a "test" for whatever mission they're training for.

I think that Interstellar Sleepover Camp could be a lot of fun. Just don't be the first to fall asleep.

Terrible trailer, for what is possibly a truly terrible movie, put together by a terrible sounding production company.

Obsidian Collective?

That sounds like some shitty name that a 13 year old guitar player would give his first band.

And they couldn't even get the "None of this was supposed to happen"-kid to do a proper crying take. How the fuck does that go down?! Huh?! Sounds like a shitty director to me, what with all that sand around.

"Hey Billy...you really need to cry..."

"I'm trying Paul. Honest I am."

"Well you need to try har...what in the hell is that?!" (Paul points behind Billy)

(Billy turns.)

(Production assistant B throws a handful of sand in Billy's face)

"Annnnnnnnnnnd....ACTION!"

You say "Obsidian Collective" like we're supposed to know who that is.
Are they student filmmakers, or what?

I read the Heinlein novel this was based on, it was ok. He wrote a lot of young adult type stuff. An adaptation could have been good but just as easily shitty...as evidenced here.

The Heinlein book was Tunnel in the Sky:

It was as HappyGobo said, just ok for Heinlein. The basic premise is that students of a space age civilization are taking a survival course and sent to a planet completely devoid of anything modern or sapient critters. It's supposed to be a short term thing, but complications ensue and they are stranded for a long time. In addition the planet turns out to not be nearly as safe as predicted for a couple of reasons.

Hmm the plot kinda reminds me of this anime series:

At first, I read the tag as Figgy in Space. I was wondering what she was doing flying out of Texas on a rocket ship.

Nicolae
I'd go see Figgy In Space for sure. This... not so much.

Posted by: Uriah Creep at July 19, 2010 9:33 PM

Figgy In Space. Pshh. Sounds like Oscar bait.

Posted by: A-schaef at July 19, 2010 9:36 PM

I think Figgy would be great. Especially with the Muppets.

Posted by: Nicolae at July 19, 2010 10:51 PM

Hee. I'd actress the hell out of that and you know it. Just make sure to cast Jon Hamm in the role of He Who Spends The Entire Movie Shirtless and Protecting Figgy and Eric Bana as The Other He Who is Shirtless a Lot and we can have us a kickass movie. In SPACE.

Muppets would also be welcome, specially Pepe the King Prawn, because he is my favorite.

Posted by: figgy at July 19, 2010 11:46 PM

Figgy would be grand with or without Muppets.

This movie must be made!

Posted by: Cindy at July 19, 2010 11:49 PM

Wheee I'll be all floaty and stuff.

I prefer to eat my cheese, not watch it. Thank you very much.

The basic premise is that students of a space age civilization are taking a survival course and sent to a planet completely devoid of passable acting.

That kid is obviously going through puberty. I sound manlier than him. But yeah it odes look a bit cheesy and i'd probably wait until it goes on DVD to rent.
