Paul Picks Up More Cast Members / Dustin Rowles

For a few years there, it seemed like Simon Pegg and Nick Frost’s Paul was something of an urban myth, a road trip comedy the two have been teasing the world with since, I think, around the time Spaced” went off the air. Last year, however, they finally finished the script (it was on the Brit List — a list of the best unproduced screenplays) and hired themselves a director, Greg Mottola (Adventureland, Superbad) (Fuck: I knew I was forgetting someone important on my best sophomore directors list).

The movie, as you may recall, is a road trip comedy. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost will actually switch roles this time — Pegg will play the doofus sidekick and Frost will play the hero. The two are sci-fi, comic-book fanatics of some sort who travel to Area 51 on their way to Comic Con only to discover that their wildest conspiracy theories are true when they meet an alien named Paul. Adventures ensue.

Today it was announced that several more cast members have been added to the production, and they’re all solid. Seth Rogen, in fact, will be voicing the alien, Paul. In addition to him, Jason Bateman has been added, as well as two holdovers from Mottola’s Adventureland, Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader, who are solid scene stealers (and should always remains that way).

Filming begins next month in New Mexico.

Please don't be shite, please don't be shite, please don't be shite.

Did I mention Kristen Wiig and I are getting married? No? Well, just don't tell anybody, were trying to keep it on the down-low. Paparazzi and all that stuff.

I'm really hoping this movie is as hilarious as it has the potential to be.

For about a year there, I thought Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were the same person.

Kristen Wiig is now the only reason I watch SNL. The season finale skit where she was the creepy sister with the baby arms was hilarious, but only for her.

"Adventureland" was his third movie, so no foul.

As exciting as this news, which is much, I seem to be distracted by that picture of one mister Pegg....

Jeremy, I'm there. I'll bring the snack packs!

Don't let us down, Pegg. You're our only hope.

Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!

I have this sick fantasy about me, Simon Pegg and Seth Rogen. Oh, hell, throw in Bateman ... and maybe I'll even give Frost a tumble. They all make me laugh, are like cute, psychotic little teddy bears. What's not to like?

Oh..........did I just say that out loud?

I can't envision anything about aliens and cons being cool right now. I'm still scarred by watching the crapfest Race To Witch Mountain recently. So nooooooooo... but I might be cured by the time this comes out and it might turn out to be good.

I don't believe you.

Am I the only person in the world who thinks Kristen Wiig is hugely overrated? It often seems that way. She plays the exact same socially dysfunctional, irritating character who makes people around her uncomfortable in every skit/film she does. I don't dislike her, I just don't get the hype.

AMAZING cast!!! Oh my god.

So no Edgar, huh? Aren't Pegg and Wright supposed to be planning a third in their trilogy? A disaster-type movie, if I remember correctly. Or am I just imagining that? Ah, well. I'm sure I'll catch this. Pegg and Frost together is nothing but fried gold.

Bugger. This sounds really pretty good, especially since Greg Mottola is on board, but I always want Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) to be in their films, and she never is.
