Oh good, even more nonsensical hatred is being spewed. Seems like just what we need this week. Back in May and June, members of Boston Teamsters Local 25 were protesting in Milton over Top Chef not using their drivers. Instead, the Bravo series crew’s own production assistants were used to transport people, and the picketing Teamsters were so offended by this, one of them felt the need to berate and threaten physical harm to the series host, Padma Lakshmi. As reported by several news outlets, as Padma arrived to the set location, an unidentified Teamster ran right up to the car and yelled out:

“We’re gonna bash that pretty face in, you fucking whore!”

Yes, you read that correctly; local drivers weren’t being used — therefore it was time to call a woman “whore.” (and “bitch” and “slut”) Other reports detail various homophobic, racist and sexist slurs were hurled at the cast and crew, and at the end of the day it was discovered 14 of the production’s cars had their tires slashed. What the everloving fork? Though police confirmed the threats and vandalism, no arrests were made.

Meanwhile, though Lakshmi and other crew members were understandably frightened by the incident, Bravo had no comment. According to various crew, on the scene executive producers, production managers, and network representatives merely stood by, and despite daily threats, shooting continued for two weeks. “They never addressed the problem with the staff, or apologized for putting us in such a bad situation. They never called a meeting with us, or sent the employees an email acknowledging what a terrible situation they put us all in.” The local labor board told this member there was nothing they could do…We had to face this nightmare daily until we wrapped the show.”

Well, that’s a load of crap. Obviously, I don’t work in television or film production, but for the folks in charge to let the cast and crew be subjected to this sort of harassment for a damned television series is bananas. And eff you whomever you lowlifes are that think your outrage over your job situation entitles you to disrespect and abuse other people. If your response to a problem is this kind of vicious hatred, you need to step back from the picket line and go have a look in the mirror.
