Only God Forgives Trailer: That Cute Boy From The Notebook Will Pummel Your Face Into a Meat Sock

Ryan Gosling always struck me as one of those actors who is much shorter in person, but like Joseph Gordon-Levitt, in reality, he's even taller than he looks on screen (Gosling is 6'1, believe it or not). He's Baby Goose, so it's still a little strange to see him in these bad-ass roles, although it worked to splendid effect in Drive. Here, he reteams with Nicolas Winding Refn for Only God Forgives, which looks to have the same quiet moodiness of their previous collaboration, which makes the uber-violence all the more effective.

There is no official U.S. release date yet, but I hope it comes out in time for Mother's Day. "Look, Mom! That cute boy from The Notebook is DRAGGING THAT MAN DOWN THE HALL BY HIS JAW."

Looks great to me... but I'm not so sure about that whole "dragging down the hallway by the jaw" bit, as I would think that someone could merely bite down on his fingers causing lots of harm and forcing him to let go. But what do I know. I'd probably get my ass beat up anyway.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

So Kristin Scott Thomas is playing the role of Ellen Barkin?

  • Even Stevens

Right?? Even after they showed her title card, I was like "no way, that's totally Ellen Barkin"

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Mostly I'm just surprised I was the first to say it.

well the trailer makes what is one of the worst scripts i've ever read seem at least watchable.

i sure as shivers hope the ending was changed or at least someone was brought in to touch up NWR's poor attempt at screenwriting.

and i worship at the ground Drive was filmed on...but this...ehhhhh.....

  • catagisreading

Who gives a shit about Gosling? KRISTEN SCOTT THOMAS people. She is the shit.

  • So didn't recognize KST there - I hope it's all makeup and wig and bad dress, as she seemed above anything not, uh, natural.

  • Buck Forty

Ah, Young Hercules. You've come so far.

  • Fabius_Maximus

Seems like Gosling's voice finally broke.

  • Muhnah_Muhnah

So...this is his thing now? Sort of lovable sociopath? I can live with it. I love Kristin Scott Thomas, but the blonde hair isn't working for me.

  • Mrs. Julien

Overdeveloped trapezius muscles always looks wacky to me.

Maybe he doesn't look badass, no, but he is a very, very good actor, so maybe he can pretend to be one convincingly.

(Disqus is telling me trapezius is spelled incorrectly. I'll have you know, Disqus, that I was a Super Speller in Miss Wellington's grade four class almost every week and my orthography in unassailable!)

  • toblerone

    I'm in, take my MONEY.

Side note: Refn is the whitest Korean director.

  • NateMan

Please stop trying to make Gosling look tough. He's about as intimidating as a half-drowned kitten. It must an attempt to draw in a female audience. That soft, longing expression on a supposed badass.

I disagree. It's always the quiet ones.

  • simplysarah

His "wanna fight" line at the end reminded me of my son's favorite book when he was little "The Grouchy Ladybug".

  • Sara_Tonin00

I thought he thought people were sick of him and he is taking a break? or was he only thinking that people were *going* to be sick of him?

    He's getting creepy-muscle neck though.

  • shardik

this movie was completed long before he announced his break from acting.....
