Nucky Thompson Is the Bigger Fish

Steve Buscemi is a funny guy. He could just as easily be a sniveling wimp getting sand kicked in his face at the beach, as he could be a powerful politician and gangster running a town. There have even been moments when I’ve seen something attractive about him, and that’s saying something because dude is an odd duck. But he’s a hell of an actor and thoroughly convincing as the big fish in Terence Winter (“The Sopranos”) and Martin Scorsese’s upcoming “Boardwalk Empire”.
The show is set in 1920s Atlantic City, when alcohol became illegal and those in the know went underground. Buscemi’s Nucky Thompson is the corrupt town Treasurer whose sideline as a mobster allows him to live like a king. But he runs into trouble when his former protege, Jimmy (Michael Pitt) returns from war, wanting to get his piece of the action and inadvertently stirring up the Feds.
HBO has picked up 12 episodes of the show for fall 2010. “Boardwalk Empire” stars Michael Pitt, Kelly Macdonald, Michael K. Williams, Shea Whigham, Gretchen Mol, Paz de la Huerta and Dabney Coleman.

Why the hell not? Solid cast, solid premise. Dabney Coleman... I guess he's not dead.
