Nic Pizzolatto Defies Your 'True Detective' Cast Expectations

Everybody just shut it with your Brad Pitt/Jessica Chastain casting news, because series creator Nic Pizzolatto is here to set the Season 2 record straight. There will not be one big name star riding in to solve the “secret occult history of the United States transportation system.”

In a new public radio interview, Pizzolatto confirms that casting hasn’t even begun yet, and when it does, they’ll be looking for not one or two leads, but three:

“Right now, we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California. Not Los Angeles, but some of the lesser known venues of California and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambience of the place, much like we did with season one. The characters are all new, but I am deeply in love with all of them. We have the entire season broken out, and I have a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting within the coming month.”

So that’s it folks; let the new rumors begin…

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) is rooting for Tricia Helfer, Katee Sackhoff and Frasier’s Eddie.

I'd still love to see Lance Reddick go to a dark, dark place.

    don't be fucking racist.

  • VonnegutSlut

I'm all in on anything Lance Reddick-related.

    Michael Pena please

  • Nadiney

Somehow, Jacob Pitts. I don't know or care how. Just get him in there. For me.

  • Ian Fay

    Sounds like they're making Terriers.

Which is a plan I support.

  • URnotright

    So say we all

  • California psychosphere?

Jeff Bridges, Sam Elliott and Frances McDormand.

  • KZoeT

Fresno? Bakersfield? I'm oddly more interested in the setting than the casting.

  • John G.

Bakersfield is a good choice. That place is a living nightmare.

  • tiny_bookbot

Being from a non-LA/SF part of California, me too.

    Bryan Cranston and Connie Britton

Now I know you're just fucking with us.

Emma Stone, Anna Kendrick and Lupita N'yongo.

While Stone and Kendrick are cute, they have in no way proven that they're capable of tackling roles this dramatic and weighty. Hell, I wouldn't even want Pitt to do it. Whenever he's a lead he's as compelling as dog's balls. Pretty just isn't enough to do it for me.

3 leads huh? Larry, Moe and Curly!

YES! THEM. I WANT THEM. BLESS YOU.

  • I saw your avatar and had an epiphany. IT WOULD BE AMAZING.

  • grr arrgh

I'm kind of ashamed I didn't think of it but YES IT WOULD. Could you imagine Bernard at a crime scene? Or interrogating someone? It would be a symphony of rage and confusion.
