It’s fucking lame.

Cram it.

Ah, he was teasing. I was wondering if TK was sniffing glue or something.

The tagline is stupid, too. "New decade, new rules." Yet it feels like the same old shit.

I remember the first Scream coming out when I was young; it was too silly for it to creep me out. The second one though, I recall, had a scene where a main character (of the like that, at the time, I thought were impervious) gets stuck in a van with the killer, and the shot cuts to an outside view of the van rocking back in forth in the ensuing tussle, followed by blood splashing on the windows. For some reason that gives me the heebie-jeebies to this day.

Redundant. Again.

Oh, TK! How can I ever trust you again! I think I totally trusted you once, for like, a minute or two. But now! (runs away sobbing)

I've always thought the series completely blew it with Scream 3. At the end of Scream 2 when Olyphant declares "It's all about the trial!" I thought sure Scream 3 was going to take place during a high profile trial of a serial killer blaming his crimes on the movie "Stab". During the final days of the trial, the killings start up again.

If Kevin Williamson had stayed on board I wonder if that was his intent and could have been a smart commentary on mass media and mass consumpton. Also high profile court cases as entertainment, the juror as celebrity, etc.

Alas, we got a ridiculously convoluted episode of Scooby Doo.

I've got some hope for Scream 4 with the original team back, but that poster sucks out loud.

That's for damn sure. The worst was that they found a way to shoehorn Randy in there by a videotape of him telling Sydney what to do in case he died. Seriously? Too ridiculous for words.

I remember the first Scream coming out when I was young; it was too silly for it to creep me out.

I always thought this was the point. It was a sendup, obviously, but was supposed to be a really, really funny sendup. It turned out that it ended up just a bit too creepy to be pitched that way, so they pitched it as straight horror.

Could be faulty memory, though. Those were the earliest days of my genre consciousness. (I am now the leader in the clubhouse for Pretentious Sentence of the Day.)

You know when Scream blew it for me? When Randy died. No way that horror movie obsessed geek would let Ghost Face get the best of him. I loved the original, and still quote it anytime I possibly can, but it should have stopped after the first movie. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go back to pretending there's just one Scream.

Seriously? They are STILL making these movies? WHY?

Posted by: Lindsey with an 'e' at April 29, 2010 12:37 PM

We already HAD a Scream 4. It was called Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon and it was far better than anything Screams 2 or 3 had to offer. I say that as a diehard Original Recipe Scream fan.

Goddamn't. I haven't liked any of the Scream films. They are all fucking retarded. No one even gets nude.

Don't they know the rules of horror? The ones that do drugs...dead. The ones that have sex...dead. The virgins...live. As you can see from the cast, not a single one of them is a believable virgin...like ever...like ever, ever.

Soemthing's got to pay Neve Campbell's mortgage. If it isn't going to be us, it should be the Scream franchise.

To be fair though, she hasn't looked all that healthy since the Craft. You know when she actually had boobs.

Seeing as this comes out in a year I thought there may be some info on it. Not a ton but here is an interesting - if rather deluded - interview with Wes Craven about Scream 4. (Note to Wes: Please don't call it Scre4m. It already gives me hives that the movie Se7en is spelled that way any time it's referenced.)

Opie Curious: Yea, I get that now, but bein' a young little dude with an imagination I thought it was supposed to straight up scare the shit out of me. Not that a lot of movies didn't do that already, I think I lost more sleep after watching It than I have in all of my late-night paper writing sessions in college.

Posted by: danny at April 29, 2010 1:31 PM

TK - liar!

That poster is a festival of lame and boring.

Also, haven't you heard of the boy who cried wolf? If you make too many "ha ha gotcha" posts, eventually when there is that random nugget of something worth looking at, no one will believe you any more.

Posted by: MM at April 29, 2010 2:28 PM

@ Neil Morse

Yes, yes,yes YES!!! Go out and find this movie dammit! I thought it satirized horror better than any of the Scream franchise.

I'm too old for this shit

Posted by: Jim at April 29, 2010 7:35 PM

Doesn't the mask now look more like the Scary Movie mask than the Scream mask??

The movie that became a send up of the send up of the original horror send up!!

That's some full circle shit happening right there!!

Posted by: indianabones at April 30, 2010 4:47 AM

That mask usually still gives me the shivers, but yeah, it just looks goofy there.

Posted by: Mimi at April 30, 2010 11:00 AM

I don't know what to feel about this.
I love the trilogy...even the third one.
But I don't know...I can tell this is not going to be good

Posted by: james at July 3, 2010 1:36 PM
