It had long been rumored that the studio behind the remake of Arthur, about a vastly wealthy drunk with no ambition, had been eying an older woman to take the role of the butler, Hobson (originally played, with great delight, by John Gielgud). Rumor in the beginning had it that it would be Meryl Streep playing opposite Russell Brand, who was set to reprise the role originated by Dudley Moore.
Instead, that role will go to this woman:

I always thought Tilda Swinton would be the actress to break down the gender barrier, but here's Helen Mirren swooping up another male role in a high profile film. The other? Prospero in Julie Taymor's The Tempest. I don't have faith in either film to turn out well, but I support the non-traditional casting in both.
