Hottest Senior Citizen in the World to Play Opposite Russell Brand

It had long been rumored that the studio behind the remake of Arthur, about a vastly wealthy drunk with no ambition, had been eying an older woman to take the role of the butler, Hobson (originally played, with great delight, by John Gielgud). Rumor in the beginning had it that it would be Meryl Streep playing opposite Russell Brand, who was set to reprise the role originated by Dudley Moore.

Instead, that role will go to this woman:

Yes. You’re welcome. And thank you, Universe.

(And no: That’s not Dame Judi Dench, you ageist).

I always thought Tilda Swinton would be the actress to break down the gender barrier, but here's Helen Mirren swooping up another male role in a high profile film. The other? Prospero in Julie Taymor's The Tempest. I don't have faith in either film to turn out well, but I support the non-traditional casting in both.

I think I'd like it better with Helen as Arthur

Gielgud was the man in the original, but I think this could be a fun remake.

I feel sort of weird ogling Helen Mirren in that photo, but ogle I did.

I love that photo beyond reason.

THAT's Helen Mirren?! Holy shite!

You sure that's not a body double?

Posted by: John W at April 22, 2010 8:47 PM

Holy fuck. Seriously.

I'm 25 and my body has never, and likely will never, look that good. Damn you Dame Helen.

Helen rocks.

Bitch.ha.

Certainly looking forward to Dame Helen saying, "Perhaps you would like me to come in there and wash your dick for you, you little shit."

Yes, yes I would, you smokin' old cunt.

God bless Helen Mirren. That is one hot old dame. Plenty of clean living and young lovers are no doubt at least partially responsible.

This just goes to show that no matter how old you are, you can still look hot if you stick to a diet and have huge tits.

Posted by: Kballs at April 23, 2010 8:27 AM

Yes, that's Helen Mirren and no, that's not a body double, the picture was taken in july 2008 while she was on holiday in Italy.

Did y'all watch last night's 30 Rock? I can't remember the exact line, but it was something about Liz going into a deep depression after she saw Helen Mirren in a bikini. Because, seriously. DAMN. I've never even WORN ONE in my entire life!

Posted by: figgy at April 23, 2010 12:45 PM

Helen Mirren is the shit. I would totally go geriatric gay for her. If you haven't seen her in Excalibur....then what the fuck is wrong with you?

She will, as always, be amazing.

I love Helen Mirren. But fucking kill me; we do NOT need an Arthur re-make. John Gielgud, Dudley Moore and Liza Minelli were perfect. I honestly don't want to see what anybody else could do with the roles. I'm not curious.

Ditto to what Kevin said, and I'm jealous of a woman twice my age. Lucky lady to hold up so well, she wins the genetic lottery.
