Here are some random entertainment stories worth mentioning, but not worth mentioning much:

  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has replaced Clive Owen in the action-thriller Protection. It’s better than another family flick. More details at The Wrap.

  • Breck Eisner, son of Michael, and director of Sahara and The Crazies, will likely direct the long in development remake of John Carpenter’s Escape From New York. More details at EW.

  • Greta Gerwig, Kevin Kline, and Ophelia Lovibond have joined Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman in an untitled Ivan Reitman comedy (formerly Fuckbuddies). More details at Variety.

  • The purportedly troubled production of Green Hornet is getting some extra time. A release has been moved back to the January dumping grounds to allow for 3-D conversion (ugh). This does not bode well for Green Hornet, no matter how much spin the studio and Rogen puts on it. More details at The Playlist.

  • Details about Woody Allen’s new film, Midnight in Paris, have been revealed. Per usual, it will feature a large ensemble cast including Michael Sheen and Owen Wilson. More details at Variety.

  • Marvel is purportedly prepping several smaller movies based on their smaller, third-tier characters, like Ka-Zar, Dazzler, and Power Pack. That is, indeed, third tier. More details at CHUD.

  • Finally, here’s the trailer for Trek Nation, a documentary that explores the “Star Trek” fan base. Scott Clothorp, the director, really thinks highly of Trekkies and the importance of “Star Trek” over the decades.

I really, really don't get who the audience is supposed to be for the Green Hornet anyway. Guys my age and older who remember the radio/TV shows? But I couldn't possibly give less of a fuck. Kids who've never seen or heard either? But Green Hornet is a pretty damn lame superhero next to, say, Spiderman. The TV show at least had Bruce Lee, but he wasn't the Green Hornet.

    So why would they ...

Oh, yeah. Because 10,000 movie screens can't go blank.

People like me, who will see pretty much anything with Seth Rogen or Superheroes I guess.

I don't see the point of "Trek Nation" except for Rodenberry, Jr. to make some money off his dad's name. The documentary "Trekkies" was good and funny and already covered this territory.

Man, Marvel is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, and I can't understand why. They've still got plenty of second-tier characters, like Dr. Strange and Black Panther, that could make for good movies.

And why there is not already a Power Man and Iron Fist movie I have NO idea.

Breck? He named his kid Breck? What the hell kind of name is that? It reminds me of dreck. Though I guess that reminds me of Andre Leon Talley, so it's okay. But Breck is still a name filled with dreckitude.

I have a friend who named his kid Bruck, swear to god!

And Trekkies 2 took up where Trekkies left off.

Todd, an Iron Fist movie is posted on IMDB and slated for a 2012 release. I once heard, a long time ago, that Ray Park was going to play Iron Fist but I think that fell through.

IMDB also shows that there was a "Black Panther" TV series that came out in 2009 that featured Djimon Hounsou as the Black Panther.

I'd go see a movie about The Tick, especially if they keep Patrick Warburton and Nestor C. as Batmanuel.
