And the Moon Be Still as Bright

The rights to The Martian Chronicles have been picked up by Fox, and in particular they’ve been snagged by John Davis. Which John Davis would that be, out of the seventy-eight John Davises listed on Wikipedia? Oh, it’s the one who was also producer of I, Robot. If you’re feeling a pain behind your eyes like a barbed ice pick was shoved up your sinuses, then you read that right.

I’m not quite sure exactly how angry to be on a scale of “oh my god you killed Kenny” to “in this life or the next, I will have my vengeance” because John Davis was also producer of the original Predator. Of course, his quality dropped off precipitously, since Predator was his first producer credit and the next 91 include such gems as Alien vs. Predator and several Eddie Murphy films from the fat suit era. 91! And he’s got another 27 listed as “in development.” This guy makes more movies than the camera at 7-11.

So help me, I’m one more “aw hell naw” away from starting to burn books. Because if all the books are gone, then the bad men can’t hurt them anymore. Close your pages, sweet stories, it will only hurt for a moment and then you’ll all be angels.

Well, I for one think that this could end up being pretty good.

I'm with you, SLW. More and more I'm thinking that Bradbury may have been on to something.

We are going to make this movie so hard! IT IS GOING TO ROCK! Michael Bay and James Cameron are going to work together to make the best three dee explosions you have ever seen! Just WAIT until you see the Marshan Mothership Explode! Don't worry, either, because Will Smith and I will save the day!

I LOVE STEVEN SPIELBERG! I LOVE THIS MAN! HE MAKES THE BEST ADAPTATIONS OUT OF SCIENCE FICTION EVARZ!

Our movie won't be slowed down by all those social examinations, psychology (because YOU don't know the HISTORY of psychology) or anthropology that made the "book" such a bore! Something WILL blow up every 90 seconds, we gurantee it! Someone WILL scream every 150 seconds! We gurantee it!

There's no need to read anymore, people, because WE are here to tell you how to think!

I think his use of my name shames me more than my predicament.

No. Nononononono. NO.

I have a theory that someone at Fox just hates the shit out of all things science fiction and is compelled to turn every beautiful sci-fi story into something stupid and mockable so they can continue to feel superior, because lookit the dumb shit these nerd like to watch der her her let's go watch FOOTBALL!!

Like everyone else, I'm not expecting much good here. But...anyone see the original miniseries? It's cool in a dated, early 1980s sort of way (and features that god-among-men Darren McGavin), but otherwise, it's pretty damn slow. Bradbury himself pronounced it "boring" (which was odd, as it was overall pretty faithful to the stories).

By the time this makes it to screen (assuming it does), I'll probably prefer to become a segment of the Human Centipede than watch it (no offence, Segment Two.)

You nailed it and then some Blondie. Firefly, Dollhouse. and others I'm sure....then again, I think that Fox may just hate Joss in particular.

If Martian Chronicles does get made, it needs to be done by someone with experience. Who actually knows how to write, who actually cares about how something happens.....wait.....what did you say Steven Speilburg? You'd like to do this? sure, here's my shotgun, go kill anyone who stands in your way! ta ta! have fun storming Hollywood.
