This is one of those projects that I have very mixed feelings about because everything that sounds good about it is balanced out by something less good. Edgar Wright (good!) is adapting Neil Gaiman’s (good!) book Fortunately, the Milk (neutral?) with Johnny Depp (…ugh) as a live action/animated hybrid (nope). Gaiman is a great writer and Wright has a very interesting vision but anything with Johnny Depp in it seems to inevitably become a Johnny Depp project and lately those haven’t been great. But he’s still a name that gets things made in Hollywood, and after Wright’s departure from Ant-Man I understand why they might need to get “name” talent on board with the project.

Bret McKenzie of Flight of the Conchords will be the co-writer for the script adaptation, which is also good. But I don’t think anyone has nailed a live action/animated hybrid since Who Framed Rodger Rabbit and I don’t see that changing with this.
