Daddy's Little Girl

Now this is parenting.

We mentioned Kick-Ass a couple of weeks ago, when the first trailer premiered. The movie, about an average shmoe who decides, despite possessing no superpowers, training, or really any abilities whatsoever, to become a costumed crimefighter, looks like a fun, nasty, violent diversion. It’s rated R, which is even more promising, and has a pretty cool cast, with Aaron Johnson as high school student Dave Lizewski, aka Kick-Ass, and Chloe Moretz as the 11-year old ninja trainee Hit-Girl. Her father, Big Daddy, is played by Nicolas Cage.

In this clip, Cage is teaching his daughter one of the most important lessons a father can pass down to his daughter. Namely: how to take a bullet to the chest.

I gotta admit, Cage looks like he could be a hell of a lot of fun in this. Here he is in costume in his character poster. Clearly it’s a bit of Batman ripoff/homage/satire, and I kinda dig that.

I didn't think anything could be as Cagetastic as a lucky crack pipe. I am happy to be wrong.

I am now excited for this movie.

The end.

This is going to be one hell of a movie. Game changer with out all that 3-d imax gimmick crap.

I never thought I would ever be able to appreciate Nic Cage in anyway other than ironically. I was wrong. This is so awesome on so many levels...I wish my parents would shoot me in the chest.

Oh. My. God. That is the first time I've ever seen Cage and *not* winced. SQUEE!!

"I hate getting punched in the chest."

Best part about that clip? No bullet hole in her jacket.

Looks innneresting...

Shouldn't the Batman folks be taking some sort of legal action here, you know, considering that costume aaaaaaand the premise.

That's not Nic Cage, that's some weird clone they manufactured that can act. Needless to say I want it now. Also, I have three daughters I can shoot at so it's a win for me.

The Cage is back! It's as if Ghost Rider, The Wicker Man, and Bangkock Dangerous were merely traumatizing nightmares.

OK, so I just now watched the teaser trailer, in addition to this clip, and HELLS YES I am excited! I didn't watch it before because of the words gritty and violent, because I am on the pansy-ass variety. But if I managed to sit through Zombieland (laughing my ass off while hiding behind my hands), then I bet I can do this.

So somehow Nicholas Cage's mystical pornstache is restoring his powers of acting? Me likey.

And the little girl is precious.

It makes you wonder what his performances would be like with a mystical pornstache AND sideburns.

Boys don't squee. Get yourself together man.

Hit-Girl is definitely going to become my new favourite superhero. And now I'm going to ask my dad why he never taught me how to take a bullet in the chest...I mean, it's just one of those things a girl's gotta know!

Posted by: Joker at December 15, 2009 2:33 PM

ahamos, I'll still think you're ruggedly masculine if you *SQUEE*

Posted by: esme at December 15, 2009 2:37 PM

I want to adopt Chloe Moretz. She's possibly the coolest little kid EVER, I mean Dakota and Elle are wicked, and others are cool too, but Chloe actually seems to be taking roles that show she's as good at being hilarious and adorable as Dakota and Elle Fanning are at being serious and adorable

Posted by: Nadine at December 15, 2009 2:45 PM

Thank you, esme. I think I'll spend the rest of my day nervously brushing my hair.

It'll probably be brushed off as incorrectly regarded as a goof, because of the angle of the camera and the length of her hair.

Posted by: duckandcover at December 15, 2009 5:32 PM

Gonna be so good. Love the unnecessary mustache stroke.

Chloe Moretz is also going to be the girl in Let Me In (Let the Right One In remake). So that at least sounds better.

I'd almost think people had never seen "Raising Arizona" or "Wild At Heart".

Posted by: Jay at December 15, 2009 7:20 PM

Or Adaptation. Or The Rock! (You may think I'm kidding...)

This one may actually get me into a movie theater next year. Although if Zombieland didn't manage that, maybe not...

Posted by: SaBrina at December 15, 2009 10:29 PM

the bullet hole is there, it's a little hard to see due to the light pink color and unless you full screen the clip to make it bigger. The little torn pink threads are visible immediately before she unzips the coat and when she's standing negotiating with Cage. Went she propped on her elbows the hair does cover the hole.

Posted by: mac moretz at December 16, 2009 1:36 PM

Yeah, I can't wait to see her in the Sweedish remake of 'Let the Right One In'. Must be sweet of her as Abby, the 200 y.o-androgenous-girl-vampire.
