Fun With Geometry

Below we have the new poster for Christopher Nolan’s Inception, a.k.a., the movie between the Batman installments (and likely, not at all a gap filler). It doesn’t look at that interesting at first — you’ve got small images of the cast (DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lucas Haas) standing on a city street. A quick glance at the poster probably wouldn’t merit much attention.

But don’t look at it too long. You can kind of get caught in it. All I’m saying is: I wanna live in a city built on a 90-degree angle.

Random geekout:

It reminds me of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, when the teacher chick triggers the apocalypse at the very beginning of the game and the entire city rolls up into a ball so even though gravity still works in its own bizarre way, it's all inverted, so the light source is in the middle of the sphere and everyone's walking around on the inside and you can see the other side of the city up in the sky and the horizon's all tilty like that.

Oh, also, I'm looking forward to this movie. But that's what that shot (and the scene of it in the last trailer) makes me think of.

For me, this is the only absolute must-see of the summer.

It's not a mere 90-degree angle, dude. Look at it some more, especially near the top...If they look straight up, d'you think they'll fall?...whoooooah.

WANT. How much longer do I gotta wait?

Heh. Speaking of geekouts, it reminds me of Sigil from Planescape: Torment. Very cool visual.

Kittyface, your ShinMegaTen reference made me crack a smile I could fit a banana sideways into :-)

And with a cast and crew like this, it's practically IMPOSSIBLE this movie will suck, it's definitely one of my most awaited films. And from the current details about storyline, it very much has cyberpunk themes as a big part of the plot, and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE cyberpunk. My favorite fictional genre, actually.

Oh my. Oh my oh my oh my. That cast...it's just...so....lovely. And that poster....tickles my brain.

This movie just jumped everything on my most-anticipated list.

This is the only movie I'll be viewing at the theatre this year. Yes, I just clapped my hands. And squeed. I've got no shame.

Yep, I'm with everyone else. This is my most anticipated movie of the summer. Fantastic poster. It makes me a bit nauseous looking at it, always a sign of art well done!

Doesn't Cthulhu live on an island where the geometry is all wonky like that?

Ditto Darth.

Although I have an old must see that I finally figured out is getting a June release stateside: Public Enemy Number One.

Cillian Murphy = must-see. He also, as a bonus, cancels out LdC. Can't wait.*

*Most of the rest of the cast also makes this a sweet, sweet proposition, too.

Mind/fucked.

You know, I'm clearly not paying enough attention. I had no idea this movie was coming out and clearly the director and the cast do indeed make it a must see. Then there's this awesome poster, and that just kind of seals the deal.

What is it about, anyway?

I love that thus far through the trailers, NOTHING has been explained, esp. in light of great, weird moments like the city curling upward or the train in the middle of the street. It's not even clear what they movie is about.

This kinda stuff is the antidote to Michael Bay's, er, "work".

Posted by: Jacktrade at April 29, 2010 12:59 PM

Well, turn me sideways and slap me silly, this movie keeps looking better and better! Excited!
