Look at this Morose Motherf*cker Right Here: New Image of Zack Synder's Batman Revealed at Comic Con

By Courtney Enlow | Trade News | July 24, 2014 | Comments ()

This isn’t so much a costume or image reveal post. This is a “what in god’s name is Batfleck so very sad about?” post.

Two images and he is so sad in both. So. Sad

How sad, you ask?

Bong indeed, Benjamin.

Zack Snyder, you know, your movies are allowed to have some levity. Perhaps a smile or two. He’s not that dark of a knight.

Key & Peele Take on Stan Lee's Lack of Relevancy, Cause Comic-Con Riots (We Assume) | Mads Forgot How to Tie a Tie, Fishburne Gags: The Hannibal Blooper Reel Is Bloody Good Fun, and Excellent Season 3 Details Emerge

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Robert Sanchez III

This is honestly the coolest looking bat cowl they have ever had. Please let sad Batman beat up Superman!

  • John G.

now that the backlash to dark storylines is getting old, can we have a backlash to the backlash? I happen to like the dark storylines, and don't need camp and colors in my superheros.

  • Ian Fay

    Why is he sad?

  • NateMan

    The Joker smiles. Batman doesn't.

  • Dennis Albert Ramirez

    Exactly. 'Nuff said.

  • luckypete

If Snyder went the other way with Batman, everyone would be up in arms. Besides, lest we forget, we've all seen what happens when "humor" comes to big screen Batman.

  • zeke_the_pig

    Batman's secret identity revealed

  • LadyUncool

So maybe Bv.S is going to be the movie equivalent of the Leftovers, in terms of bleakness? Hopefully Batman Ben doesn't shoot any dogs.

  • Maybe it's the butt chin? Or the tiny ears? Or the sadness that he JUST shaved this morning but he's already got a shadow at 3pm?

    I mean, that's a lot of problems.

  • Bryan

At least he's not as bad as Dexter Morgan, who shaves in the morning but has full-on shadow by the time he leaves for work (my roommate is Netflix binging it, so I noticed that little bit of the opening sequence).

  • laylaness

For some reason, "tiny ears" has me guffawing over here.

  • kirbyjay

You guys leave Benji alone. Don't forget that his better half is Matt Damon. He should get points for that.

  • Heehee. I like him, I do! That picture just cracks me up, though.

  • Ryan Ambrose

Kind of off-topic but at this alarming rate the comments section will be inundated with spam bots yammering about their Aunt Helen's suspicious source of income while she works only for an hour a day on her computer, so I must address this.

I propose the moderators and editors start deputizing exemplary and vigilant Pajibans with the power to brandish merciless and swift justice in order to make the comments section safer again for our children and minimize their exposure to syntactically abhorrent posts full of spamming.

Although, should I be entrusted with such authority, I cannot promise you I won't go mad with power.

  • Guest

Damn the spam bot trolled you! Lol I think they are becoming self aware!

  • Wōđanaz Óðinn

How much does your cousin make an hour?

  • kirbyjay

I'm tempted to log on to their website and start making $100 and hour sitting at home. They can't all be wrong, can they? I could use a new Mercedes.
I do have a question about Bat and Supe though. I'm not a comic fanboy so I have no idea why Batman is versus-ing Superman. Aren't they both superheroes for good? What's the beef? Is it for the title for greatest superhero? Cuz I'm pretty sure Superman would win that, what with the superhuman strength, the flying, the x-ray vision and the much sunnier disposition.

  • NateMan

Superheroes always fight the first time they meet. Always. Superman and Bats could show up to ceremonially open a pediatric cancer ward, meet for the first time, and within 5 minutes one of them would be exiting through a wall. It's just the way things are done. A right hook to the jaw is their version of a hearty handshake.

  • Dulce et Banana

The director's been really anal-retentive about the title reading " V. " not " Vs " and the only time I've seen "v" used like that was in quoting legal precedent.

"M'lord. As found in "Batman v Superman", the actions of the defendant, Mr Batman - in this case referring to the plaintiff, Mr. Superman, as a quote doodie-head unquote and a quote moron unquote - were justifiable and non-actionable due to Mr Superman's comments about the cleft in Mr Batman's chin immediately before the incident."

  • Al Borland's Beard

People were really excited at the possible battles in a Marvel/DC crossover, but ultimately disappointed when it just meant that Matt Murdock would be defending Batman in civil court.

  • Dulce et Banana

There's a vaguely homoerotic joke about misfiled briefs in there somewhere but I'm on the run. Everyone use your imaginations.

  • luckypete

"Batman v Superman: Legal Justice" Tag line: The Courtroom Battle that will rattle your precedence.

  • foolsage

It's gotten really bad in the last week or two.

  • SottoVoce

It has. I always flag them.

  • Andrew J

Damn the spam bot trolled you, I think they are becoming self aware

  • I think they're raptors.

  • Oh, look. A Zack Snyder joint without a shred of subtlety. What a stunner.

  • Andrew J

How can you tell there isn't subtlety from that photo? It's a photo of his head, what am I missing here?

  • okay, fair enough...there's not much to see. i don't think too highly of snyder, so i tend to see everything he does as more proof of his essential snyder-osity.

i'll say this, though - he picked one photo to release, and he made sure to choose serious batman, as opposed to action batman, or pose-ey batman, or other batman. pretty sure this movie will be 2 1/2 solid unrelenting hours of Importance and Seriousness and Impact.

  • Stu Rat

Are you basing your view of Batman on The Lego Movie?

  • Guest

No you're wrong look at how happy he looked during batman begins promos

  • Guest

No you're wrong look at how happy batman looked in the batman begins teaser poster!

  • It's the same face I make when I realize we're out of coffee.

  • csb

But we've got two photos in a row now of Afleck looking like a morose motherf...

At least Batman Begins promos had a bit of range.

  • Andrew J

But he doesn't look happy in either of those pictures in the second one he's making the same face? Listen I Agee that synder could have released a better pic but it's two years away and he just needed something for the 75th walll... He probably only has so many photos right now

  • Andrew J

Oh wait, it's the same exact pose... I guess we are just finding reasons to complain... How very expected of nerd culture

  • $113152758

    Girl Trouble obviously...

He's channeling his inner Holden McNeil.

  • Batman doesn't get sad. He broods.

  • Al Borland's Beard

Looks like Snyder's Batman could use a little Adam West.

  • pthalio

And why doesn't Batman dance anymore? Remember the Batusi?

  • Al Borland's Beard

  • Dan Scott

    Pure. West.

  • Sharks probably make him sad too.

  • Stina

Then he needs to just go to the local Walmart and pick up more shark repellant!

  • Al Borland's Beard

Well, then there's no hope for him.

  • mzblackwidow

from everything I read, everywhere, ALL the time - ol' Benny Boy has quite a lot of stuff to be sad about. I don't know if that bathead is one of those things, but he definitely needs a visit with Jay & Bob !
