New Details on 'Ghostbusters' Reboot Plot

So far almost all the news about the Ghostbusters reboot starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones has been great. We’re getting Chris Hemsworth eye candy, Paul Feig is directing, produced by Ivan Reitman, it’s all looking pretty good. And now, we have some new plot details from Vanity Fair to help whet our anticipation even more! Or just sort of confirm that they’re loosely sticking to the plot of the first one, whatever.

According to The Boston Herald, the movie will revolve around a book that Wiig and McCarthy’s characters write about ghosts that comes back years later to ruin Wiig’s career as a respected professor at Columbia University. After she’s forced out of academia, Wiig gets the last laugh when ghosts invade Manhattan and she and McCarthy team up to save the world.

So, not super different from the original Ghostbusters that we all know and love, but that’s comforting in a way. This is one of those “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it” kind of situations, and while they may be rebooting the movie for a modern era and a different audience it’s good to see that they’re not shoehorning in a “high tech” plot line that would become dated very quickly.

Also, I always feel a little weird linking to what are clearly illicit photos from set (having people who work in the industry will do that to you) but if you want to look, Vulture has some photos of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon on set and in costume.

Ghostbusters is scheduled to come out July 22, 2016 so you’ve got about 13 months to go.
