Near, Far, Wherever You Are (Not): Is The Dark Knight Rises IMAX Prologue Playing In Your City?

We’ve known for a while that IMAX screenings of Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol would showcase a six minute prologue to The Dark Knight Rises starting December 16, 2011. Christopher Nolan has also said that the prologue would feature the movie’s main villain, Tom Hardy’s Bane, in much the same way that The Dark Knight featured a masterful prologue starring Heath Ledger’s Joker.

Between now and then, there have been plenty of rumors in the fanperson universe about exactly what the mysterious prologue will entail, including but not limited to Bane confronting Batman moments after the conclusion of Knight and an entire Bane origin sequence that traces the main story beats from the first hour of Batman Begins. None are really worthy of being recalled in detail, being little more than fan fiction at this point, but if you decide to seek them out, there are definitely worse things on the Internet.

But finally we have some solid information to report about the Banerrific prologue for The Dark Knight Rises, mainly that not only will only IMAX theaters feature the extended look at the Most Anticipated Movie of All Time, but only a few, specific IMAX theaters will even show it. Namely, these 42 theaters in these 34 cities. Suffice to say, Dallas/Fort Worth (aka, the DFW Metroplex) is not one of them, which means I may have to take an unexpected trip to Austin in a couple weeks. Did your city make the cut?

If you find yourself living in one of these lucky cities, I really don’t want to hear about it. I may not be able to stop myself from hiring someone (probably TK) to sever both of your Achilles tendons. Just sayin’.

I would also add that the IMAX at Waterloo in London is showing the Dark Knight Rises prologue. It's very tempting to go see. But I'm holding back.

Just.

Jesus Christ people, some of you must have been a real pain in the ass at Christmastime growing up. Wait already. It's coming whether you see this now or not. I am not- repeat NOT, going to give Tom Cruise money for his shitty movie just so I can see the first few minutes to another movie I plan to go see next year in its entirety anyway.

Speaking of which, whose knob did he gladly shine to have his movie selected as the one that gets to have this footage riding in front? Whatever this teaser has, it ain't worth giving Captain Couchtrip and the Xenu-teers an artificially swelled source of income.

By the way, anyone who can't hold their wad long enough that they absolutely have to give someone else money to see this is likely someone I wouldn't want to share company in a theater anyway. You're either paying twice for one movie, or you're playing for two movies even if you didn't really want to see the first one. Save your money, I have no doubt it will show up for free somewhere online soon enough anyway.

I've done a lot to avoid seeing Dark Knight Rises spoiler but I might have to do this.

And truthfully, Ghost Protocol will probably be amazing. I'd have doubts if Brad Bird had ever made anything bad. But he hasn't. He makes good things. Only good things.

Who the hell doesn't want to see Ghost Protocol anyway?! It looks terrific! The only question for me is if I want to drive an hour to Indy to see it on IMAX at inflated prices for this. But likely, I'll just see it in a normal theater and wait a few weeks until the DKR prologue is released as an official trailer.
