NBC's Giving Us More "Chuck"

  • Although there’s been no official confirmation, everyone is reporting that NBC has renewed “Chuck,” probably for 13 episodes. This was hoped for by many, and optimistically expected by a few (myself included) given NBC’s need for a bunch of extra programming in the wake of the failed experiment of Jay Leno at 10 p.m.
  • Similarly, everyone is saying that ABC has renewed “V” (also likely for 13 episodes) which was also expected, since it basically had to renew either “V” or “Flash Forward,” and “Flash Forward” is, you know, a steaming pile. In fact, word also has it that “Flash Forward” is officially dead (as, sadly, is “Better off Ted”).
  • One year shy of topping “Gunsmoke” as the longest running drama, there was rampant speculation yesterday that the mothership “Law & Order” would not be picked up by NBC for next year (although the higher rated and generally better “SVU” will almost certainly be back for what will possibly be its final season). But late last night, the rumors added that there were some last-minute negotiations going on to try to save the show. Word may leak for sure in the next day or so, just as happened with “Chuck,” but we’ll find out one way or the other with certainty on Sunday night, when NBC dumps a press release of its new lineup in advance of Monday’s upfront presentation.
  • Fox, meanwhile, has renewed “Lie to Me” (eh) and “Human Target” (groovy). It’s also ordered up a bunch of new shows.
  • In fact, there are lots of stories about various pilots that have been ordered (ABC picked up six new shows), and ones that may get picked up (NBC is likely to take on two new legal dramas, for instance, including one from David E. Kelley). But rather than throwing all of these at you now, I think it’ll be more interesting to talk about them all within the context of the full network schedules next week. Suffice it to say, Olivia Munn, Elisha Cuthbert, Michael Chiklis, Michael Imperioli, Will Arnett, and Matthew Perry are among the various people who will be gracing our TVs with new shows come this fall. Perry, Chiklis, and Imperioli are welcome leads. The jury remains out on Arnett. Cuthbert’s show better involve her being chased by a cougar (and I do not mean Courteney Cox), and Olivia Munn is an actress now? Alrighty then.
  • (I didn’t bother to source any of these because they were reported basically the same time at a whole bunch of places, although I believe douche-nozzle extraordinaire Michael Ausiello first reported the “Chuck” renewal.)

I don't even understand. A show I love that...isn't being cancelled? Am I dreaming? Did we just jinx it?

Chuck does not suck, so buck up and tuck your luck cuz Huck never fucked a duck.

Michael Chiklis? Where? When? Need info NOW! My TV has been Vic Mackey free for far too long.

I don't I need to tell anyone how happy a Chuck renewal has made me. Seriously, I shouldn't tell anyone, that would be mortifying.

Thank goodness Chuck's on a channel that's so ass over elbows that they can't get a line up together fast enough in order to can such a fun show.

I think NBC hates fun. It's my secret belief that the Community pisses them off because it makes children smile. I once saw Zuckerman slash the Weinermobile's tires because he heard that the word "weiner" makes people chuckle. Terrible man.

Yes! Anything with Chiklis is good in my book.

I may be showing some horrible ignorance here, but NBC has some of my favourite shows currently airing - Chuck, Community, ... Ok, yeah, it's basically just those two, but I LOVE THEM. And let's be realistic, 30 Rock, P&R, and The Office are (or were) well liked and respected. So where're NBC's problems actually coming from?

Now that Chuck's "officially" renewed (I'll believe it on Sunday) I just hope that Heroes gets renewed too. Not because the last few seasons have been anything other than terrible, but because with Claire finally going public I'm curious to see where they go with something that should have happened at the end of the first Volume.

The last several seasons were an unfortunate detour and I still hold hope that the show could get back on track (I'm aware that I will most probably be severely disappointed).

I want Chuck to end. I still watch it out of obligation, and I'm still entertained, but I come away feeling like I've just eaten a bunch of McDonald's. It's still kinda funny, but the story has spoiled and is smelling up the refrigerator.

@Lucas I'm almost with you. I watch it, because I love the shows heart. And Yvonne is well, hot as hell. Oh, and Casey is funny. Well, and Morgan is too. Awesome is pretty awesome...wait nevermind, I don't want it cancelled. I just want it to go back to better writing.

I love Olivia Munn, but she needs to stick to hosting Attack of the Show and showing off the goods in random dude mags. I don't think she can pull off acting for any length of time.

Posted by: ChristianH at May 14, 2010 1:25 PM

Didn't you see Munn's amazing performance in Iron Man 2 as...Olivia Munn? She's also good at looking like she's been smacked in the head with a baseball bat and in excruciating pain in every modeling shot she's ever taken. That's talent.

Speaking of NBC, they've just cancelled original flavour Law & Order.

    Human Target! *squeee*

Excuse the excitement, but that is my second favorite new show this year, behind Community. Also, the finale had Amy Acker in it, which is always a win.

Speaking of Chuck, did you know cute lil Zachary Levi can sing too?!? Ignore Katharine MacPhee and the generally bad song and just watch the adorable concentration from Chuckles.
