Her forehead is huge!

I'm sure Jennifer Lawrence is going to kill it as Mystique, but I loved Rebecca Romijn in that role. She was just so awesome. Sigh. I'm sure I'm going to love X-Men First Class, but it's going to bring back bittersweet memories of the first two X-Men movies.

Posted by: Sassafrass Green at April 20, 2011 9:08 AM

She has the power of Forehead!

Posted by: Keith at April 20, 2011 9:09 AM

I know many will be transported by Ms. Romijn's beautiful body, but all I can think is that the make-up must itch and be unbelievably uncomfortable.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at April 20, 2011 9:10 AM

Good to see Gene Simmons getting work.

Posted by: Kballs at April 20, 2011 9:22 AM

Gene Simmons WISHES his hairline was that far forward.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at April 20, 2011 9:25 AM

Is that a jumpsuit with suspenders sewn onto it? Why?

Posted by: BWeaves at April 20, 2011 9:25 AM

I just hope Lawrence is as graceful as Romijn was, because that made the role, in my mind. ALthough probably half of her movement was CGI, and probably 3/4 of Lawrence's will be too.

Sigh.

And his tits were that perky.

Posted by: Kballs at April 20, 2011 9:31 AM

do you suppose the change in skin tone is avatar's fault?

Posted by: idleprimate at April 20, 2011 9:48 AM

the new mystique looks like play doh and that's just gross

Posted by: idleprimate at April 20, 2011 9:50 AM

Does she have tiny hands? Because she reminds me of Dooneese.

Posted by: sars at April 20, 2011 10:00 AM

C'mon folks you aren't really gonna go see this are you? This is just a low budget version of movies that weren't that great with big budgets. Unless they discount the ticket prices comparably you're being ripped off.

Posted by: logan at April 20, 2011 10:07 AM

Ignore the heretic.

Did we ever get a real reason why she can look like anything but chooses blue and scaly?

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at April 20, 2011 10:24 AM

The blue makes her eyes pop.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at April 20, 2011 10:45 AM

Optimus Rhyme
Did we ever get a real reason why she can look like anything but chooses blue and scaly?

I don't know, the look certainly doesn't make sense to be, the scaliness anyway; if she just had blue skin and red hair like in the comics she wouldn't look nearly as weird.

Posted by: cockroach at April 20, 2011 10:47 AM

I loved Winter’s Bone and I loved Lawrence in it but I mourn the loss of Rebecca Romijn (or ‘Wife’ as I call her); she was perfect in that role. And in many other roles, NUDGE NUDGE WINK WINK.

It’s too hot today.

Posted by: zeke the pig at April 20, 2011 10:49 AM

I think blue and scaly is supposed to be her natural state, I assume it takes some effort to look like someone else so when she's with her fellow mutants she just reverts to her normal.

Posted by: Three-nineteen at April 20, 2011 11:02 AM

This is boring, but here's the reason she chooses to be blue: It's her natural state. The character in the comics changes her appearance when it suits her, not anybody else. You don't like that she's blue? Step off, beyotch, it ain't about you.

Nerd Alert: If you'll notice in the trailers and stills, there are times when Jennifer Lawrence looks like Jennifer Lawrence, and other times she looks like Mystique. I've a feeling that will be part of her arc, showing the confidence in her natural, obviously mutant, self growing as she's no longer "afraid to go to school (as a child," like Romijn's version said in the first X-Men). It's called character development, people. Whether they pull it off remains to be seen.

As for the scales, I remember Bryan Singer saying in an inteview (when the first one was released) that they went naked/scaley so the transformations would make sense (as in, otherwise she'd have to carry around a dufflebag full of costumes since her clothing can't also change on its own) and have a definitive visual element (as opposed to the comics where she just gets glowy and then looks like someone else). This explanation is also boring. Blame Singer, not moi.

rebecca romjon or whatever her name is wins hands down. actually, keep those hands where i can see them!

Posted by: splinter at April 20, 2011 11:07 AM

Did we ever get a real reason why she can look like anything but chooses blue and scaly?

Because she shouldn't have to!

That's all I got from X Men 2. I don't understand how they keep making the posters for this film look so bad.

Posted by: Carrie at April 20, 2011 11:08 AM

Did they have to push the hairline back so far? Are they trying to highlight her ginormous forehead? Did she get into a fight with the makeup and hair people or something?

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at April 20, 2011 11:13 AM

Of all the mutants, I'd be this one.

The Rebecca version.

Posted by: The Gay at April 20, 2011 11:19 AM

What I really don't understand is why they are straining so hard to make this a prequel to the other movies; it'll be impossible for them to match up fully.

It wouldn't even be a reboot if they started fresh, it would just be another movie, just based on roughly the same source material, and the more distance you could get from X-men 3 and Wolverine would be a good thing, I would have thought.

Posted by: cockroach at April 20, 2011 11:23 AM

Ok, I assumed it was her natural state but the ridiculous X-3 shows her lose her powers and she turns into a normal person. God, I hate that movie.
JUGGERNAUT IS NOT A MUTANT

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at April 20, 2011 11:34 AM

A better question....Why does she "naturally" have jet black hair (as in the horrible third movie when she sacrifices herself for Magneto and loses her powers)?

Posted by: Annie_Reckson at April 20, 2011 11:52 AM

neither is lady death strike
do you hate that movie
@optimus

Posted by: greg at April 20, 2011 12:28 PM

fuck you annie

Posted by: mikey at April 20, 2011 12:29 PM

I'm not saying everyone in the movie needs to be a mutant. My problem was that Leech negated Juggs' powers. It shouldn't affect him!
Also, why did they do so much set up with Angel and then not have him actually do anything.

Posted by: Optimus Rhyme at April 20, 2011 12:46 PM

Yeah, I was okay with the changes to Deathstrike and Juggernaut, just because movies about teams of genetically mutated super heroes who have better technology/equipment than the world's super powers and who fight each other over philosophical differences is high concept enough without also throwing in cyborgs and Cyttorak crystals.

Bad script?

Don't have a 'Continue reading..' link on the front page when it links to nothing more than a picture!

Be bold and just say 'Click here to see nothing more than a picture as I could not be bothered to make some sh*t up'

Posted by: danger_mouse at April 20, 2011 12:58 PM

all this x-men bickering does for me is make me want to throw on the first to movies

Posted by: idleprimate at April 20, 2011 1:17 PM

Just when I thought we had reached the bottom, we start delving into the mind of Brett Ratner.

Posted by: branded at April 20, 2011 1:22 PM

Wow, it's getting angry in here. You'd think it was a Prisco review about Christians trying coax Ayn Rand fans into trying anal.

Posted by: Paultera at April 20, 2011 2:10 PM

Angel did do something He was the catalyst he rebelled against his father and then saved his life
and leech's power does not just affect mutants
but other metahumans

Posted by: gregory at April 20, 2011 2:33 PM

fuck the first two movies
and fuck anyone that thinks
they are great

Posted by: dan at April 20, 2011 2:35 PM

whoever said Juggernaut isn't a mutant is wrong. He is. He's a.......well he's one of those weird pesky mutations that happens in a long while. Super Strength. Hence the Rhino getup.

Posted by: Lord-ninja at April 20, 2011 2:40 PM

you're wrong. Juggernaut was a soldier who stumbled across a magical ruby in some Asian temple dat made him huge.

Posted by: haplo at April 20, 2011 3:03 PM

oh, n Dan? Fuck you back.

Posted by: haplo at April 20, 2011 3:04 PM

Mhmm, Pantone

Posted by: Protoguy at April 20, 2011 3:33 PM

If I remember correctly, the reason she is blue is the same reason Nightcrawler is blue ;)

Posted by: Protoguy at April 20, 2011 5:07 PM

Holy moly, NERD FIGHT! With cussing!

Shut up, y'all.

I just came to say that I've always liked Rebecca Romijn for no particular reason. "She seems nice." That's all I got.

Posted by: MM at April 20, 2011 5:36 PM

Gotta agree with those who say Rebecca OWNED that role.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at April 20, 2011 5:58 PM

Damn right, BSlim! I wish she could have returned in this one. However, I have to be one of the heathens. I'm with you Dan. People keep hatin' on the third film but the first two films weren't all that great either!

Aaaaaand I'm gone! *scampers to safety*
