You're Finally Getting The Green Lantern You Wanted

For whatever reason, comic book movie news tends to break in bursts, so in the interest of saving time — daddy’s got drinkin’ to do, you brats — here’s today’s comic book movie news round-up.

First and foremost, back in the formative days of the Green Lantern movie, fans were clamoring for Nathan Fillion to get the part, which ultimately went to the abtacularly glib Ryan Reynolds. Well, hope is not lost, Browncoats, for Fillion will get his hands on the power ring regardless. Of course, you won’t actually see him wearing it… he’s been cast as the voice of Green Lantern in DC Animated’s upcoming Emerald Knights, the sequel to 2009’s kind of dull Green Lantern: First Flight.

While he was voiced by “Law And Order’s” Christopher Meloni in the first entry, Fillion is putting on the ring this time around. This isn’t the first turn at voice acting for Fillion — he was also the voice of Steve Trevor in their animated Wonder Woman film (and he was excellent in it, by the way). So, you won’t get the Lantern you want, but you’ll get the next best thing. The film will also feature the voices of Elizabeth Moss, Henry Rollins, Jason Isaacs and Roddy Piper.

Next up in DC movie news, the preposterously idiotic rumor of the day: Lindsay Lohan is allegedly in talks for a supporting role in Zack Snyder’s Superman. Before you start tearing at your capes (“NO CAPES!”)

Sorry, got distracted. As I was saying, before you freak out, the chances of this being true are basically zero buried in zeroes and dunked in a bucket of shit. The report comes from TMZ, who said, “Lindsay’s people have had multiple phone conversations within the last few weeks with the people behind the new Superman reboot” and they’re “supposed to meet personally with the Superman people soon.” Lohan is basically Hollywood arsenic at this point, and I’m fairly certain that her cachet isn’t quite what they’re looking for. Basically, I’m saying that if this happens, I’ll kill Dustin. Why should he suffer? Why not, I say.

Next, while there isn’t much Avengers news at the moment — all eyes are cast towards Thor and Captain America — producer Kevin Feige did have this to say about Joss Whedon’s superproject:

We have a first draft, which is probably the best we’ve ever had at Marvel. We will continue to sharpen up shooting, but we can say that the foundations are strong. We wanted to avoid the danger that the film looks like Iron Man 3 or Captain America 2, and Joss has really managed to conceive as to the origin of the Avengers, the first of a new saga that everyone can enjoy without seeing the other Marvel films.

(shiver) I’m all a-twitter about this sumbitch. Everyone seems to think it’s either going to be epic, or epic fail. I’m leaning towards the former. Maybe I’m deluded. Or drunk. Possibly both.

Continuing in the Marvel vein, here are some high resolution shots from Captain America: The First Avenger. There’s some good stuff here, including a full shot of Chris Evans in Cap’s suit, and a slick before-and-after look at the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). All images can be clicked to enlarge.

Nathan Fillion has done plenty of voicework for animated movies and video games. No surprise he's doing this.

I love Hugo Weaving and I love skulls. WIN.

Count me out, I won’t be going to see Cpt. America because of the revisionist history of WW2. But I will go see Green Lantern because I like Ryan Reynolds, even though he gives off that dainty and delicate vibe. You know what I'm talking about, he's one of those guys that don't eat with his hands.

Hooray for Hugo Weaving getting work! Guy is a great actor...even though I want him to either say "MISTER Anderson..." or dress up in drag in sing, in every movie he's in.

Emerald Knights sounds like the name of a Drag show, doesn't it? Either that or a male-stripper show.

Hmmm...I think I figured out what's so silly-looking (to me) about the Cap'n America costume: it's the shield. I KNOW it's his thing, but the colors and design call to mind a whole lot of cheapo 4th-of-July decorations and it's hard to think of it as a useful weapon. Hopefully the movie will take that away.

You'll want to stay away from Hogan's Heroes then, as I hear that's not very realistic either. And don't get me started on U571...

Have Nathan Fillion be in the Drake's Uncharted movies. that'd make my day 100%

RyRey doesn't have to eat with his hands. He has a dozen beautiful, nubile, young women to feed him at every meal.

Lindsay Lohan still has "people"?

Those Cap photos look pretty sweet. I'm not sure if I've heard yet: Has there been any talk about this story being split between WW2 and the modern day? I sort of assumed it would be, for some reason, but it's starting to look like it won't (which is probably a good thing).

Posted by: Todd at February 9, 2011 11:50 AM

Any day that has Captain America pics is a good day. :)

And I am just going to ignore my pessimism over that Avengers movie, and downgrade it to "wait and see".

Yeah, Him and Nathan Lane get all the women.

Yes. And I will be refraining from eating popsicles because I am disgusted by the lumber industry.

COSMIC CUBE!!!!!

I must ask what movies you watch, then? Only historically accurate ones? So... nothing?

Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull? And the Cosmic Cube?

I'm saving up for this flick.

Oh, and Pookie? Have a nice day.

What the fuck did I do now! I got you breaking my balls on this column and Yossarian breaking by balls over on another column.

Posted by: Pookie at February 9, 2011 1:58 PM

What? Pookie, all I did was wish you a nice day! Sweet Jesus in Jodhpurs, can't a person be polite once in a blue-ballsed moon?

Posted by: The Wanderer at February 9, 2011 2:05 PM

I'm sorry The wanderer, Its been one of those days.

Seriously? Captain America looks like a retarded male model, can't believe they went with.....wait a second. A male model....a male model. A superhuman weapon..sent on a mission against the Nazis. Nazis like Hugo Boss the man who tried to take over the fashion world. This makes so much sense now. Captain America is a Zoolander prequel!
