Deadline is reporting that Marvel is set to begin negotiations with Benedict Cumberbatch to take on the role of Doctor Strange, a Marvel character that has probably been mentioned in the trades more times in the last six months than the entire timespan of the character.

Is he a good choice? Hell, I don’t know. But he’s Benedict Cumberbatch, right? I’m 79 percent sure that whatever movie he decides to make will be better because of him, and I’m a little more excited about seeing Doctor Strange becuase of his involvement (though, I would’ve preferred Keanu).

Scott Derrickson is directing Doctor Strange and Jon Spaihts is writing the script, and by the time it arrives in theaters, we will all know more about Doctor Strange than we know about our significant others.

In the meantime, I guess this takes Cumberbatch out of the D.C. world and perhaps away from any significant involvement in the Star Wars franchise. If it f**ks with plans for the next season of Sherlock, however, I will mess somebody up.
