Mark Wahlberg Confused for Matt Damon by Fan, Delightfully Rolls With It

So, Wahlberg is not the brightest egg in the dozen, but the guy’s got a good heart, he’s likable, and he speaks his mind, even if his brain sometimes crosses wires. Yes, he dissed the ridiculous budget on The Lone Ranger and then justified the expense on Transformers 4 by claiming it has a “human element,” but the big ole’ lug is easy enough to forgive, especially after he was mistaken for Matt Damon by a fan and never corrected her. In fact, he posted the picture and text to his Facebook wall with the message: “Close enough.”

That’s classy. As for the fan? Well, if the only Wahlberg movie she’s ever seen in Shooter, I suppose she can be forgiven. But if she’s seen Wahlberg fingerbang Reese Witherspoon on a roller coaster in Fear, then that’s an egregious mistake.

ohhh myyy goodddd tony shut the fuck up

I don't know. He seems like a decent fellow now, but I just can't ignore his past. Yes we've all done stupid shit in our teenage years, but I never engaged in hate crimes. Maybe it's because of my mother's Vietnamese background, but that shit feels closer to home and when I read about it, I can't help but imagine what would happen if it was someone I loved, who was assaulted by Marky Mark and blinded in one eye.

  • amylu

And for the poor guy to have to see his attacker on tv, movies, magazines, etc... I've read no more about the incident(s) than the wikipedia article, but if that's to be believed, Marky Mark still has A LOT of growing to do. He could start by apologizing to the man he blinded.

    From Wikipedia --
Commenting in 2006 on his past crimes, Wahlberg has stated: "I did a lot of things that I regret, and I have certainly paid for my mistakes." He said the right thing to do would be to try to find the blinded man and make amends, and admitted he has not done so, but added that he was no longer burdened by guilt: "You have to go and ask for forgiveness and it wasn't until I really started doing good and doing right by other people, as well as myself, that I really started to feel that guilt go away. So I don't have a problem going to sleep at night. I feel good when I wake up in the morning."

I remember hearing a story where Liam Neeson got confused with Ralph Feinnes and rolled with it down to the autograph.

At least that's not far wrong, when they both have pants on.

"but the guy’s got a good heart, he’s likable..."

Not to turn this into something else, but do we not care about his participation in hate crimes and violent assaults as a youth, or are we just big believers in second chances after a certain amount of time passes? I mean, I guess I like the reformed dude story, but I like it more for guys who only directed their destruction at themselves, like Robert Downy Jr. It was a long time ago, and he's expressed regret, but that doesn't give sight back to the dude he blinded in one eye or unbreak his neighbor's jaw.

"The Departed" was so confusing. You throw DiCaprio into the mix? I had to watch it three times before I could figure it out!

Dammit, mildly attractive white guys of a certain age group!

  • DeltaJuliet

Thank God it's not just me. And I lust after all of them. It was very confusing for me, on several different levels.

  • BWeaves

Actually, when they're wearing suits, they do look alike.

  • mairimba

I've been telling you guys that all white men look the same.

  • NateMan

White guys whose names start with M from Boston? Meh, close enough. Good on him for not going jerk.

  • e jerry powell

He's been going very Zen of late, I think, what with getting rid of the ink and trying to be an excellent father and such. Definitely not the Angry Young Man.
