The Maine International Film Festival

Well, crap. I just got called out by, Janelle, a local for failing to mention the Maine International Film Festival (and no, I don’t live in Portland’s hipsterish East End; I’m in the Back Cove — the old people’s hood). And despite the fact that the film festival is in my current home state, I failed to mention it here because I’m a little embarrassed that I won’t be able to attend this year (family obligations — there’s a lot I can get out of for work, but kids’ birthday parties are not one of them).

That said, it’s a pretty solid festival, if you’re in this neck of the woods. It started over the weekend, but it runs through Sunday, and there’s still quite a few movies worth catching. 500 Days of Summer, for instance, plays on Tuesday at the Waterville Opera House (and if you live in Maine, it won’t be back here until August 7th). One of our other most anticipated anti-blockbusters of the year, In the Loop, plays on Saturday night.

The Rivals, a documentary about a local high-school football rivalry, kicked off the festival on Friday. If you missed it, it’ll be airing on the Smithsonian channel next year. There’s also an interesting documentary playing tonight and Wednesday, Tapped, which is about the bottled-water industry. And on Thursday night, you can catch Kyle Rankin’s (a “Project Greenlight” winner) Infestation, a horror-comedy that’s playing at the Skowhegan Drive-In.

For much more information on the festival (Bonnie and Clyde’s Arther Penn is receiving a lifetime achievement award this year), the full-schedule, and how to get tickets, you can check out the website.

My apologies for not mentioning it sooner.

In the Loop is a great film - I would heartily recommend it!

Anyone who gets the chance to see The Rivals should absolutely check it out. Great movie. Showing on the Smithsonian network fall of 2010. Making the festival rounds right now. It opened the MIFF on Friday night.

So… now we know that Joseph Gordon-Levitt can't pull off a beard.

Rowles, you could promise to pick me up in a limo, take me to the theater and give me a corndog and handjob and I still wouldn't go see 500 Days of Summer.

I could do something else with that corndog, Tracer. Is that something you might be interested in?

What you stick in your butt is of no interest to me.

Wait. Have I stumbled upon a previously unknown Pajiba dating thread?

You know what? JGL can do whatever he likes with his facial hair. I still want to have dirty heathen sex with him.

In the Loop was by the funniest film I'd seen in a long time. Plus, Tony Soprano's in it. Just do it.

Well, he can't pull off his own beard, but I'd love to give him a chance to pull mine off.

With his thighs.
