It’s rare to get any unplanned information about a franchise as big as Star Wars these days. (The same goes for Marvel. That Disney mouse keeps his secrets locked up tight.) Really, the only way we’re going to get our curiosity quenched is if someone slips up. And since so many of us are incapable of just, you know, waiting patiently to see the actual movie, those slip-ups are glorious little presents.

Today, Mads Mikkelsen was on Sky News to talk about his two upcoming projects, Rogue One and Doctor Strange. When asked to describe his role in Rogue One, he said he could “say absolutely nothing about it… or then [he’d] have to kill [the host] and all the audience.” And then he goes ahead and says too much anyway.

Here’s the important quote, in response to being asked how he felt when he was first approached for the film.

A little scared. I wasn’t really sure if I was wearing a Stormtrooper outfit or anything like that at that point. I don’t know, I wasn’t sure I could fit into that. I read the script. It was very beautiful. And Felicity [Jones] is playing this lovely, young, strong woman, and I play her father.

That was too much. I’m sorry.

Immediate reaction:

In the past, Mads has also potentially revealed his character’s name (Galen), and the fact that his character is a hero with a “very important role.” Of course, while we all wish he could star in everything for the rest of time, it’s hard to see his face as straight “hero” without at least a bit of “cryptic evil sociopath” mixed in. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what the dynamic of this Galen/Jyn relationship looks like… or wait for Mads to slip up again.
