Let's Overthink Our Way Through These Bad Ass New Doctor Who Images

It’s very strange to be working with a series not having any clue when the actual series will debut, but most people assume it will debut on the BBC on September 1st. Assuming BBC America sticks with last year’s schedule, then it will also debut in America on that date, then about midway through the season, BBC America will skip an episode, then everyone in America will be a week behind, and half of BBC America’s audience will start illegally downloading to avoid spoilers.

Whatever. Doctor Who is coming back in less than a month. That’s plenty to be excited about. There are also a slew of new images to gaze upon, as well as episode summaries — via Den of Geeks — from the first few episodes. We’ll start with those.

Episode 1: Asylum Of The Daleks - Kidnapped by his oldest foe, the Doctor is forced on an impossible mission - to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter… the Asylum. A planetary prison confining the most terrifying and insane of their kind, the Doctor and the Ponds must find an escape route. But with Amy and Rory’s relationship in meltdown, and an army of mad Daleks closing in, it is up to the Doctor to save their lives, as well as the Pond’s marriage.

Episode 2: Dinosaurs On A Spaceship - An unmanned spaceship hurtles towards certain destruction - unless the Doctor can save it, and its impossible cargo… of dinosaurs! By his side a ragtag gang of adventurers; a big game hunter, an Egyptian Queen and a surprised member of the Pond family. But little does the Doctor know there is someone else onboard who will stop at nothing to keep hold of his precious, prehistoric cargo.

Episode 3: A Town Called Mercy - The Doctor gets a Stetson (and a gun!), and finds himself the reluctant Sheriff of a Western town under siege by a relentless cyborg, who goes by the name of the Gunslinger. But who is he and what does he want? The answer seems to lie with the mysterious, Kahler-Jex, an alien doctor (yes another one!) whose initial appearance is hiding a dark secret.

My only question is when will they stop trying to make me care about Rory and Amy's relationship? I have never been less invested in a television couple. UGH. They don't deserve the Doctor.

  • Lee

Oh, I know. The relationship feels forced, and the Doctor is soooo much more attractive than Rory, it isn't funny :(

  • Dear Dr Who showrunners, please have Matt Smith lean against something provacatively at least once an episode from now until forever. Thanks ever so.

  • DarthCorleone

Looks like some goofy fun in the first few episodes - Daleks, dinosaurs, and a Westworld homage.

  • Leelee

Hmm. Matt Smith in the stetson is working for me in some strange way. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

  • BobbFrapples

Where, oh, where has my Doctor gone?
Oh, where, oh, where can he be?
    With his funky hats and his bow ties on;
Oh, where, oh, where can he beeeeee?

  • Tinkerville

As long as the colored iDaleks are left out of this, I for one am psyched for a potentially well done Dalek story. I never seem to get sick of the little tin cans. The cybermen on the other hand..

  • Sefa

I think Matt Smith is going to stay on as the Doctor until he runs out of hats to wear.

  • Optimus Rhyme

Episode 5- The Angels take Manhattan.
As Weeping Angels attack The Big Apple, The Doctor has lost his memory and joined an Ad Agency.

  • Wait, does he get to punch Pete in the face?

  • Ted Zancha

    Stetsons are cool.

  • Anne At Large

    Yay, Arthur Weasley?

  • BWeaves

That's who it is. It was driving me crazy. I know that face from somewhere.

  • BWeaves

Ooooo, melty Daleks. Crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside.
