Just Pretend

Ah Johnny, you know I love you, right? But still, this put-on accent has reached Madonna-like proportions and I’m going to have to start mocking you. If I thought it was just pretend, you being silly for what looks to be a silly film, I could let it pass. But you’ve been slipping into this thing for a while now. Dude, just because you are living in France, have grown out your hair, and maybe don’t wash as much as you used to - it doesn’t make you French. Now do I agree that turning yourself European might make you even more attractive than you were before? Sure. Everyone digs an accent. But really, you just sound like you need to hock a big loogie, so knock that shit off, will you?

As for you Angelina, I suggest you have more Bradbabies or stick to being an action babe who has little to say. While Johnny might sound affected, your dialect borders on the ridiculous. (Now if indeed your character is intended to be ridiculous, I do promise to issue an apology forthwith.)

Anyway, here’s the trailer for The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp as Frank, an American (hear that Johnny?) traveling in Italy and trying to get over a broken heart. Angelina Jolie plays Elise, a woman who deliberately crosses his path and not so deliberately falls for him while trying to execute some sort of secret plan. The film description characterizes Elise as an “extraordinary woman”; I don’t know (or particularly care) what that means - is she a spy or a criminal? Either way, the hotel scene with Johnny feels a little Pink Panther-y, which is a good thing. Because who could take these two seriously? You can run, you can hide, you can put on your throatiest voices but you’re still Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie.

The Tourist also stars Timothy Dalton, Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell (holy hot men) and you can bet my ass will be in the theater December 10, 2010.

Jolie looks really....weird. Too much hair, too much makeup, not nearly enough body. I found it very distracting.

Posted by: zygomatique at September 15, 2010 2:45 PM

Holy Shit! How quickly can you say "gone to seed"? Depp looks like the lost twin brother of Chibs from Sons of Anarchy in that trailer...and that's not a compliment.

See kids: this is what smoking does to your face.

Posted by: PaddyDog at September 15, 2010 2:48 PM

He's... aged.
That's not supposed to happen!

Posted by: Fridge at September 15, 2010 2:51 PM

Yeah, but Jolie already looks older than he does...

Posted by: Eep at September 15, 2010 3:03 PM

They both look awful, awful.

Posted by: grace b at September 15, 2010 3:11 PM

Do I hold out hope because it's directed by the guy who did The Lives of Others, a truly terrific movie, or weep most because he seems to have joined Jolie and Depp when they flushed the toilet and jumped in?

Posted by: Not a hair splitter at September 15, 2010 3:18 PM

Angelina is all lips and hair these days. Someone needs to tie her down and force feed her some cheeseburgers fast. Just because she's the UN go-to girl for starving people doesn't mean she should look like them.

Posted by: greenblue at September 15, 2010 3:25 PM

My ass will be right next to Cindy's (at least in spirit) on the first night. It IS hard to see the gorgeous JD like that, though, isn't it? But that's what he's supposed to look like for this - can't you see all the other people in the trailer scenes looking amazed that she's with him? Jeez!

Posted by: Pajama Girl at September 15, 2010 3:27 PM

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...Oh Paul Bettany why must you torment me so?zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Posted by: AM at September 15, 2010 3:33 PM

i saw the original movie and the trailer was better!
here that looks alike the sequel of "knight&day" with Johnny "whay happened to his face and his accent? " Depp and Angelina "botox accent" Jolie

Posted by: caro at September 15, 2010 3:33 PM

Oh please DO abandon Jolie and Depp from your lusty imaginings!

*heehee....mine! all mine!*

Posted by: replica at September 15, 2010 3:36 PM

Holy dodgy accents, Batman! I'll take some more Cap'n Jack Sparrow over this, thankyouverymuch.

Posted by: lingli at September 15, 2010 3:36 PM

Maybe he's forgotten how to do an American accent?

Also, get that woman some pizza and lots of it - fast!

Posted by: Simon at September 15, 2010 4:06 PM

Jolie looks like a middle-aged stick insect with ugly bangs & should be banned from ever doing any accent.

And when did Depp get so bloated? Feh.

Posted by: Snrub at September 15, 2010 4:08 PM

I think she looks ridiculously hot in that brief flash of scene where she's wearing what looks like a cloak. Yow. But yes, I did like her better when she was less skinny. I'm still quite fond of her despite my desperate yearning to introduce her to carbs though, I can't help myself. I so passionately dislike so many Hollywood actresses that I will cling to my enjoyment of Miss Jolie for dear life.

On the other hand, I'm confused by both of their accents. SO CONFUSED.

Posted by: Nat Kittyface at September 15, 2010 4:17 PM

Neither one of them look movie star attractive in the least. Why do I want to go see and dirty person and Skeletor's mistress hop around a big screen for two hours?

Posted by: Candy at September 15, 2010 4:18 PM

Big fat blargh. I can't imagine a more uninspiring pair of actors. OK maybe Cruise and Diaz, but this is a close second.

Posted by: figgy at September 15, 2010 4:38 PM

PAUL BETTANY!! That is all I have to say.

Posted by: wildflower at September 15, 2010 5:20 PM

I would pay good, good money to watch Angelina wearing a slanket and eating Kraft Dinner (extra creamy) out of the pot that Maddox and Pax cooked it in. While watching nature documentaries. And maybe smoking a gigantic blunt once the kids go to sleep.

Good money. This? Not so much... although I do love me some international spy of mystery films.

Posted by: seed at September 15, 2010 5:32 PM

Angelina's accent and persona reminds me of Catherine Zeta Jones in real life

Posted by: kiwikate at September 15, 2010 6:14 PM

Oh, please. I don't know what you people are bitching about. She looks beautiful, and he looks like a character. Which is what I expect Johnny Depp to look like. When did Johnny Depp ever NOT make himself look like someone else in a movie?

As for this business about his accent -- I guess I'm accustomed to his voice sounding different. Hers -- yeah, she's not so good with the British accents. And it's annoying. But I think she's gotten better at it since Lara Croft. At least, I hope sop, because the Croft accent REALLY sucked.

But this "Eat a cheeseburger" bullshit fucking annoys the shit out of me. YOU eat a cheeseburger. She's thin. She's going to stay thin. ENough, already, with the bitching about the thinness. Christ. You bitch about Christina Hendricks being fat. You bitch about Angelina Jolie being thin. Is ANY goddamned woman the RIGHT fucking size for you people?

Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor at September 15, 2010 6:17 PM

I don't know what any of you are talking about because those are two seriously good looking people. She could stand a couple cheese burgers, but stil. Maybe you all live in a land filled with peole of unspeakable beauty, but considering the much less attractive people I have to look at on a daily basis I would go see this movie just to stare at them for two hours, if I ever went to the movies. But when it's on cable I'm making myself a big tub of popcorn and a vodka tonic and settling in for some pretty.

Posted by: Michin70 at September 15, 2010 6:28 PM

Sorry about the bad spelling my contacts are not cooperating today:)

Posted by: Michin70 at September 15, 2010 6:29 PM

I agree that Jolie looks fabulous: not at all too thin in my opinion. But Depp (as I mentioned above) looks like the poster child for the fact that smoking ages you prematurely.

Posted by: PaddyDog at September 15, 2010 6:48 PM

Wow.

That was so, so dull. I actually got bored watching the trailer.

Did anyone notice the vacuous lack of chemistry between these two while they were making this movie? And two of the biggest stars on the planet are looking pretty terrible...Depp is heavier and looks like B.O. and Jolie is strained, stressed and skeletal.

And the sad part is, it's like they were trying to rip off Knight & Day.

But YAY Paul Bettany! That man does not get enough quality parts.

Posted by: Parker at September 15, 2010 6:55 PM

OK, Fiiiine. I'll probably see it. But only because of Paul Bettany and Rufus Sewell, both of whom are just NOT AROUND ANYWHERE NEAR ENOUGH.

OK?

Got that? Not because of Pez Dispenser Jolie and NOT because of Johnny Depp's ugly twin brother. OKaaaaayuh??

Posted by: klingonfree at September 15, 2010 7:28 PM

They both look like goddamned muppets.

Posted by: jzhz at September 15, 2010 7:44 PM

Starring Timothy Dalton (Hot Fuzz), Paul Bettany (A Beautiful Mind) and two muppets

Posted by: Mr. Razastein at September 15, 2010 9:38 PM

rufus sewell is in this? zowie, i'm there!

Posted by: diane at September 15, 2010 9:47 PM

and the trailer doesn't make a lot of sense, but I'm intrigued enough. good enough for a weekend movie night out.

Posted by: diane at September 15, 2010 9:50 PM

It has Paul Bettany in it. I will see it and be annoyed by there being too much Angie and Johnny and not enough Paul. But I'll still see it.

Posted by: DominaNefret at September 15, 2010 11:51 PM

You had me at Paul Bettany.

Posted by: Kelly at September 15, 2010 11:54 PM

I'm lost on the accent complaint here. He sounds slightly drunk to me, but definitely American. And oddly like an old boyfriend of mine from Oregon. What are you people hearing that I'm not?

Posted by: Anne (in Reno) at September 16, 2010 12:46 AM

an American (hear that Johnny?) traveling in Italy and trying to get over a broken heart.

Do men really do this? It sounds like such a woman thing. Men stand their ground, women run away.

I know, I know: stereotype much?

Is that Gary Oldman on asthma medications?

Posted by: Adrien at September 16, 2010 9:35 AM

You calling me fat, Maryscott?!?!

Posted by: seed at September 16, 2010 12:11 PM

Waaah!!! I have to listen to an accent. Waaaah! Movie stars don't look as good as they used to. Grow up! Get over it! People age. People change. Just go see the movie for Christ's sake. God, this was such a time suck....

Posted by: jlopez at September 16, 2010 2:41 PM

I'd still hit it. On both accounts. And have Paul Bettany for dessert. And his wife. Ok, I might be overly horny. But they're so pretty!

Posted by: Joker at September 16, 2010 5:54 PM

Hardcore movie!!!... From start to finish, it's really worth watching! super intense and action filled!! great? stunts! great movie!
