If Beyoncé can surprise release a full-length album with zero promotion and sell a cajillion copies, maybe Joss Whedon can unleash one of his own movies and capture a huge audience before anyone has even seen the the film and judged it. And at $5 for a download, what have you got to lose, aside from an hour and a half of your time?

The film — written and produced by Joss Whedon — is called In Your Eyes, and it’s directed by Brin Hill, who really doesn’t have much of note on his filmography (he wrote Battle of the Year and Won’t Back Down, both of which were forgettable and terrible). The movie — about two seemingly polar opposites are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined — features Jennifer Grey, Zoe Kazan, Steve Harris, Nikki Reed, and Mark Feuerstein, was filmed in Claremont, New Hampshire and made for about $1 million.

That’s all we know, except that you can download and rent it for $5 at the website.

Here’s Whedon’s announcement.
