John Carpenter Will Have Creative Control Over His Own Reboot

It’s official, folks. The long-gestating (look at this crybaby TK post from 2011!), many-times-killed Escape from New York remake is finally happening. Carpenter fans — myself included — can be a weensy bit rabid, and I’ll have to admit, I’ve always been pissed by the thought of any of the director’s films being redone (don’t even get me started on the Halloween stuff). Carpenter is a master of mood, and has an eye for just the right actors; it’s simply impossible for anyone else to capture his work. But despite our feelings, the mighty dollar has won out again, and Fox won a bidding war for Escape’s rights.

Now, before we start our rampaging anew, I have a few points to make:

a) John Carpenter will executive produce and have “creative influence” over the project.

b) There is one man who can do Snake Plissken justice:


c) We know a good Duke candidate:


So, see? All is not lost.
