Jennifer Garner's Butter Trailer: Drop Dead Gorgeous Meets Election Meets High Cholesterol

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | August 24, 2012 | Comments ()

When's the last time we saw a comedy in the vein of Election or Drop Dead Gorgeous? Mid-westerners plus butter sculpting plus a stripper! And Hugh Jackman. And Olivia Wilde as a stripper.

I'm in.

Butter did the festival circuit last year, and is just now arriving into theaters on October 5th, and that delay suggests that, perhaps, it's not as amusing as the trailer would portend, but I'm cautiously optimistic, all the same.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

It looks butterific (hears crickets chirping in the background)

  • denesteak

this looks hilarious. I love garner forever for sydney bristow.

and rob corddry makes it better.

  • The delay was due to a studio marketing plan to cast the film as a comedic lead in to the election. Yep. It is a funny movie though. Very funny.

  • my internet skills mysteriously fritzed out after reading "jennifer garner" and "butter" in the same sentence. i'll have to get back to you on the trailer

  • k,maybe there was nothing sexy about that trailer. looks like a good movie tho

  • oh, and gross

  • Pippa

OK it looks like that little black girl is a good 1/3 of that movie but I DON'T EVEN KNOW HER NAME, but thank god they told me Ashley Green is in it, now for sure I have to check it out.

  • linnyloo

Oh, man. I've been looking forward to this movie for ages and ages. I hope it has TONS of wonderful Iowa footage to make me feel like I'm back at home!

  • smijca

My favorite part:"She obviously decided to play the race card." That said, f the veteran players (and Olivia's boobs) I'm watching it for The Orphan.

  • Stephen Nein

I fucking love being an Iowan.

  • linnyloo

    ME TOO.

  • branded_redux

The perfect combination of Drop Dead Gorgeous and Butter is at the Minnesota State Fair where they have the Minnesota Dairy Princess Program for which the finalists, vying for the title of Princess Kay of the Milky Way, each have a portrait sculpture made. Out of butter.

I hear that they're deep frying embolisms this year!

  • TheOriginalMRod

    That actually looks funny.

    And I want toast now...

  • **I AM** NotTheOne

This is the part where I admit to following Olivia Wilde on Twitter, and finding her to be completely charming and funny.

  • annie

I follow her, too. It's why I became a fan of hers to begin with.

  • tmoney

HELL Yeah! Iowa State Fair Represent! This year we had the butter cow and the butter Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Why? Don't ask why!

  • linnyloo

I mean to reply to you. Whoopsie! Anyhoo, I go every year, love it, it's not summer without the Fair. Go Iowa!

  • tamatha_uhmelmahaye

I don't know what's wrong with my brain today, but when I read the title of this film my first thought was, "What? Like someone who butts in line?"

  • **I AM** NotTheOne

Talk to me when the sequel "Bacon" hits theaters.

  • Sara_Tonin00

Carving in bacon fat...which state fair will have it first? Texas? Wyoming?

  • **I AM** NotTheOne

New York! We already have the butter carving every year. And currently they are serving chocolate covered bacon there.

    Chocolate...covered...bacon. :::shudder:::

Sorry. I didn't mean to involve you in my foodgasm.

I suspect a bacon sculpture of some sort is in our future.

  • Sara_Tonin00

A friend's trying to get me to go to NYS Fair, but unfortunately I'm moving next weekend. I did get a book on bacon for my birthday a few weeks ago though, so I'll console myself with that.

  • **I AM** NotTheOne

You still have time! The Fair goes until Labor Day.

Also: A book on bacon. I'm getting emotional right now.

  • Sara_Tonin00

I did the fair once, ages ago - when I was about to start working in Auburn and the Clintons were convincing people they lived in New York.

  • Lauren

DROP DEAD GORGEOUS MEETS ELECTION? Already sounds like my new favorite movie. ++ for Alicia Silverstone. I'm super sold on this.

  • Jill

This looks like the most fabulous movie of the year to me (with the "fabulous" said outloud with extra flair). I'm not a big fan of Garner's work, but she's a good absurdist comedienne (is that the right way to describe it?)

  • annie

Okay, I'm biased, I love Olivia, damn it. She makes my lady parts confused, but she also looks hysterical in this. AND TY BURRELL.

  • Captain_Tuttle

I'd see it just for Corddry. I have to wonder how super-vegan whatever Alicia Silverstone dealt with all that animal product.

  • Yes, Corddry bonus! And some pretty decent one-liners, maybe the writing will hold up beyond that. First fave: "I get pregnant once a month." Yumm.

  • ,

    "Olivia Wilde as a ..."

    "... stripper."

  • And again sold.

  • Iowa State Fair Represent! This year we had the butter cow and the butter Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Why?

  • linnyloo

I go to the State Fair every year, and I think it's just so incredibly fun that people will still line up and parade slowly past that refrigerated glass box to behold The Butter Cow. And I did think that the butter snow white was well done this year. It still doesn't beat the Butter Last Supper (which totally actually did happen, and was MARVELOUS).

  • Kala

Not really interested, though I must say, as much as I have a serious Hate Fuck going for Olivia Wilde, this may be the best thing she's ever done.

  • annie

From early reviews, she's probably the funniest thing in this. Comedy (+ all the sexy) might just be her niche.
