Jason Statham Will Battle The Fantastic Four... Or Something Like That: Michael Chiklis Cast In Parker

I’ve expressed my tentative excitement for Parker, Taylor Hackford’s upcoming adaptation of Richard Stark’s infamous character. Parker’s a consummate professional criminal, a hardnosed badass, and the star of a stellar series of books. Jason Statham has been cast as the titular Parker, which is good because I like Statham, and he’s got the right kind of badassness for it, though I don’t remember Parker kung-fu’ing his enemies too much.

Anyway, the casting is rolling right along, and now Michael Chiklis has been tapped to play the bad guy. No word on who that bad guy will be, but it’s solid casting and should be a fun role for Chiklis. The other cast members so far are solid — Wendell “Bunk” Pierce and Clifton Collins, Jr. are also on board. The big x-factor is the female lead - Jennifer Lopez is in talks. Although, this is the perfect opportunity for her to shed her J-Lo image and go back to her Out Of Sight-style acting. That’d be swell, no?

Anyway, here’s your obilgatory shirtless pic of The Statham. Enjoy.

That luscious picture is rotated 90 degrees. See the palm trees? He's holding his body perpendicular to the pole...I choose to believe anyway.

Strong mofo.

I look forward to drooling through this movie.

You had me until J-Lo. Knowing she's in it makes me suspect the whole thing.

Congrats, Ben.

One moment, I need to sit down. I'm having a little trouble catching my breath.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at July 12, 2011 10:41 AM

Poor Mrs. J, she always seems to have problems breathing. Does she have allergies, asthma, corset too tight?

Posted by: logan at July 12, 2011 11:03 AM

My corsetry does not allow for the more laboured breathing brought on by Mr. Statham's physical assets. I have loosened the ribbons and I am feeling somewhat more composed.

*dusts off fainting couch*

Please rest here until you're fully composed.

Posted by: logan at July 12, 2011 11:38 AM

Thank you logan, such chivalrous behavior is indeed rare in these trying times.

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at July 12, 2011 11:46 AM

@ logan - never heard it called that before...and why is it dusty?

Posted by: NateS1973 at July 12, 2011 12:46 PM

In the olde days proper women wore heavy dresses that completely covered them, often layered with sweaters or shawls even. They also wore corsets which further restricted their breathing. So in the summer heat, or even just climbing stairs, they would naturally faint dead away. Thus the fainting couch was invented to give them a place to rest and recover. It was dusty because most women today dress like slatternly tavern wenches so the fainting couch is unused.

Present company excepted, right logan?

Posted by: Mrs. Julien at July 12, 2011 2:39 PM

Of course dear lady! No one would mistake you for a tavern wench.

Posted by: logan at July 12, 2011 3:15 PM

Stop trying to quell my fantasies of Mrs. J dressed as various occupations of wench.
