No, Kristen Bell is not playing Supergirl. Well, she is, but not the way you’d expect. She’ll be appearing in Movie 43, a set of short comedic films done by various directors. It seems like it’ll be a series of brief acerbically funny vignettes, with Bell and Bibb in one directed by the Farrelly Brothers that shows various heroes at their worst, and they’ve assembled a monstrous cast. The information we have comes from Coming Soon, who recently interviewed Leslie Bibb about her role in as an unhinged Wonder Woman. She had this to say:

“Mine is me, Jason Sudeikis and Justin Long and Bobby Cannavale and John Hodgman is the Penguin. And Bobby Cannavale is a jacked up Superman who smokes and we all are these fucked up superheroes. Like, I’m sleeping with Batman. He won’t call me back. I’m kind of crazy. Kristen Bell is Supergirl and Uma Thurman is Lois Lane or something. And we’re all just dysfunctional superheroes, like superheroes who can’t get a date. We’re all at this speed dating… I’m Wonder Woman and I have on this amazing wig and the whole getup, which was pretty fantastic. And I’m crazier than bat sh*t. Like, she is really crazy, and so it was really fun because I know Jason [Batman] and he won’t call me back and I love him and he just doesn’t care about me.”

The other directors are Elizabeth Banks, Steven Brill, Steve Carr, James Duffy, Griffin Dunne, Peter Farrelly, Patrik Forsberg, James Gunn, Bob Odenkirk, and Brett Ratner. That last douchspelunker notwithstanding, that’s a pretty fun list. As for the cast? Well, (deep breath) here it is:

Emma Stone, Gerard Butler, Kristen Bell, Chloe Moretz, Josh Duhamel, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Knoxville, Elizabeth Banks, Naomi Watts, Kate Winslet, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Richard Gere, Anna Faris, Justin Long, Liev Schreiber, Uma Thurman, Seann William Scott, Kieran Culkin, Leslie Bibb, Jimmy Bennett, Kate Bosworth, Patrick Warburton, Tony Shalhoub, Chris Pratt, Jason Sudeikis, Jack McBrayer, Aasif Mandvi, Bobby Cannavale

Goddamn that’s a hell of a list. Movie 43 is tentatively slated for an April 13, 2012 release date.

(Except for Ratner) This sounds wonderful. But I'm going to approach it with my excitement in check. I worry that it will have too much going on.

Screw it, I'm stoked.

I was pretty excited about this until I got to "Like, I’m sleeping with Batman. He won’t call me back. I’m kind of crazy". A man sleeps with a woman and won't call her back? How original! She's "crazy" and it sounds like she starts to stalk him? Wow - I've never seen that before! But then I decided that John Hodgeman as The Penguin trumps all that.

I'd almost be mad about the Bell as Supergirl misdirection if it weren't for two things.

1) This sounds cool and I really want to see it now.
2) Any excuse to post a picture/photoshop of Kristen Bell as Supergirl is a good excuse.

I see you fixed that.

I'll be in my bunk...OF SOLITUDE!

You had me at 'Liev Schreiber and Hugh Jackman.'

Seriously what is your problem with Brett as a director. The majority of his films have been decent

Posted by: greg at December 1, 2011 12:19 PM

@greg: Rush Hour is not the majority of Ratner's movies.

Posted by: FabMax at December 1, 2011 1:08 PM

According to Rotten Tomatoes, only three of Ratner's films are rated "Fresh" - Rush Hour, Red Dragon and Tower Heist. Of those, none are above 70%.

He has an equal number of films BELOW 20%. The rest are all less than 60%. Given the propensity of that site to rank films much higher than they deserve, I'd say it's fair to consider him a crap director.

Hence the term "Ratnerfucked".

Kristen Bell looks kind of silly with that large of a chest. Just like she said in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

Holy photoshop, Batman!

This sounds like a "Valentine's Day" / "New Year's Eve" cast stunt movie but directed towards not-your-typical-derp-American-audience.

fuck rotten tomatoes and that term proves you are no better than him

Posted by: greg at December 1, 2011 9:02 PM

Is Greg Ratner's mom or something?

I was just thinking that - maybe it IS possible to throw 30 actors into a film and not have it suck after all.
