It's a Conspiracy!

For the 24 fans looking to fill that action/conspiracy hole left by a runaway Jack Bauer, AMC’s new drama Rubicon may offer solace. While the show doesn’t premiere until August 1, we’ll get a new preview right after the sure to be breathtaking Breaking Bad finale this Sunday night. I’m anxious to see the approach of the cable channel’s third original drama; if this was a network series I’d temper my expectations, but AMC is proving a contender.

James Badge Dale (The Pacific, The Departed) headlines as an analyst at a New York City think-tank. Executive produced by Henry Bromell (Homicide, Life on the Street, Brotherhood), the show also stars Miranda Richardson (Sleepy Hollow, Harry Potter), Dallas Roberts, Jessica Collins, Christopher Evan Welch, Lauren Hodges and Arliss Howard. Rubicon is a “…story about trust and power born out of the desire to find a way to capture the intensity and mystery of the best conspiracy thrillers in a series. It is a show that appeals to everyone who has some skepticism about the relationship between big business and our government…”

From the description, it’s unclear whether Dale’s analyst works for a government agency, but my hope is that he’ll be an intellectual Jack Bauer who focuses on using his mind more than his physicality to work against whatever evil forces he encounters. Not that I would mind a little ass-kicking interspersed here and there.

I’d also suggest Bromell steal away Andre Braugher from Ray Romano’s Men of a Certain Age; while he’s fantastic as Owen, he needs something with a little bit more grit.

The Rubicon preview will immediately follow Breaking Bad which airs Sunday on AMC, 10:00 pm EST.

Someone has a new series that is not a cops or lawyer show? How can that be?

I will watch anything with James Badge Dale in it. Oh Chase Edmunds, how you rule my heart.

That header pic is totally the male version of Anna Paquin.

This is either:
1) The adult offspring of Paquin and the guy that plays Vampire Bill Compton.
2) Anna herself after she:
(SPLICE SPOILER AHEAD)!!!

Pulls a Dren and flips genders.

Either way, it represents some amazing time-travel activity that we can see this intriguing vision from the future, today.

::cue internal dialogue::

No, I won't.

Aw, come on!

I said No and I meant it. I will NOT get into a political discussion about the military-industrial complex on Pajiba.

Suit yourself, then. Bastard.

::end internal dialogue::

Gee, a new series. Here's hoping it doesn't suck balls right out of the gate.

So its going to be just like Burn Notice then?

That was a bad spot for an out-of-the-blue Splice spoiler, laredo.

The caps and **** aren't enough to register (especially given that it's unexpected, here) before one's eyes bridge that huge one-inch gap between warning and spoilage.

I'm not really all that interested in the concept, but since James Badge Dale has made his way onto my freebies list, I am going to be obliged to watch this.
