Is ABC making a Fables tv show?

The Fables graphic novel is one of the new Greats, on par with Y: The Last Man and The Walking Dead. It tells the story of a group of fairy tale characters that are forced out of their homeland and into the real world of New York City. Snow White is the de facto leader of this group, and the Big Bad Wolf is a detective. Very exciting stuff, all around.

What does this have to do with anything? Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, exec producers and writers on Lost, as well as the writers of Tron:Legacy, have sold a pilot script to ABC. Let me know if this sounds familiar:

[A] mix of sci-fi and fantasy with a strong mystery element. [The] premise is a modern-day take on fairy tales, with a female protagonist who comes from a unique background.

I hope they’re ready for an angry call from Vertigo.

Especially since Fables was supposed to be in development at ABC last year. This news is pretty strange. Hopefully they are not trying to shoehorn Fables into a simpler concept. ABC sucks ass launching new series so that wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I tried the first two Fables trades. They just didn't do for me what everyone said they would. Keep in mind that I am a gigantic fairy tale, comic book, and Vertigo nut. I wouldn't quite group Fables with the other two and I don't know that I would apply the term Greats to them just yet. Greats to otherwise non-comic fans? For sure. Greats amongst the loads of truly great stuff out there? Maybe/maybe not/sometimes.

I lost interest in Fables after they defeated the Adversary and moved the focus away from Snow White and the Bigby Wolf. The other protagonists just aren't as compelling, except for Cinderella, and Mr. Dark is an incredibly boring villain.

I actually really like Fables, although I haven't gotten to that part yet TRACER.

Jack of fables is consistantly funny and I loved the great fable crossover

I would absolutely PLOTZ if they could make Fables into a good tv show. Oh man.

Friends swear by it, but I just haven't been able to get into it. Read the first few trades, and I just didn't care. Oh, the pigs are taking over the farm. How concerning.

Who would play Bigy Wolf?

Oh dude, I've already seen this one. It was...shit, what was it called?

Enchanted! That's it, totally Enchanted.

So the Fables series they were working on fell through? Damn shame.

I get where you're coming from, Tracer. The war and The Adversary were compelling, and now it seems kind of....meandering. But I think they can come through with more good material.

Bid Todd, I actually dislike Jack's war, even though I like JoF in general.

This year, for Halloween, my boyfriend and I were Bigby and Snow, but no one knew who we were, and even after we explained, not a single person had heard of Fables. I was greatly disappointed, I thought we had geekier friends than that.

For any Fables fans that hasn't read it yet, the stand alone novel "Peter & Max" is outstanding. That one actually would make a pretty good entry point for Hollywood.

Enchanted was good, but could not get past the albatross that is Patrick Dempsey. Amy Adams and James Marsden were awesome in that movie.

It's times like these were I'm glad I avoid network TV and only watch the good TV shows via Netflix. ABC is still dead to me for cancelling "Pushing Daisies" anyway. I also love how they admit they got the idea for the show one year after Fables came out.
