Indy's Spunky Cousin? Poster and International Trailer for Luc Besson's The Extraordinary Adventures of Adele Blanc-Sec

Director Luc Besson (The Fifth Element, “La Femme Nikita”) has found a lovely and captivating young lady to head up his latest feature, which is based on a French/Belgian comic. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec stars Louise Bourgoin as a feisty investigative journalist who jumps into the middle of a whirlwind fantasy, that involves pterodactyls and a creepy man who more than resembles Raiders of the Lost Ark’s Major Toht. The adventure, set in 1912, follows Adele from Egypt as she has been searching for a particular mummy she intends to revive (to help her ailing sister), back to her Paris home, where another long dead creature has been brought back to life. The trailer has one NSFW boob shot:

The film looks like an engaging fantasy and the time is ripe for a female Indy. Hell, the time is ripe for any sort of great adventure film and Bourgoin’s performance has been roundly praised by those who have seen it during 2010 festivals. The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec also stars Mathieu Amalric (Quantum of Solace, Mesrine: Public Enemy #1, Munich), Philippe Nahon (Irreversable) and Jean-Paul Rouve (La Vien en Rose) and will be released in the UK April 14th, 2011. Hopefully, we in the U.S. won’t be far behind.

Finally, here’s the cool, just released poster that does a fine job of capturing the film’s vibe:

I love Luc Besson. I'll be there with bells on.

P.S. Tags, goddamnit, TAAAAAAGS!

And while you're at it, what is with the apostrophes et al? Can't y'all do something about that?

This movie came out more than a year ago in France and the buzz was great. The BD (Bande dessinée) series is great as well. It's Miss Marple, but only young, Parisian, and living in a Lovecraftian universe. It's Hellboy, minus the large red fellow, plus the really pretty French girl, and a century ago.

Really, it's exactly like those things, except it's not like them at all! :)

I would say less like Indiana Jones and more like The Mummy.

As far as I can recall Indy never had conversations with a walking/talking mummy. Nor did he ever get chased by dinosaurs.

I'm just glad we're finally getting another female character that doesn't make me want to punch walls. Luc Besson knows how to bring kick-ass women. How long before Hollywood feels the urge to make an Americanised version? Probably starring Kim Kardashian because why the fuck not.

This is why i like the French. They took a what would be in america a simple, PG-rated romp, and they put boobs in it.

I remember this trailer. Came out a while ago. Looks cool.

Posted by: junierizzle at March 20, 2011 3:50 PM

Looks pretty radass to me.

I approve of Withnail's comment.

Seems intriguing. And I like the fact that he included boobs in the trailer. That's how you market a movie ;)

Intriguing!

Mathieu Amalric was also in Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and I'll love him forever on the basis of that movie alone. I'm in, this looks like great fun! I love the really polite mummy.

That trailer was tits. (See what I did there?)

Also, 2:01. You're welcome.

Posted by: Tracer Bullet at March 20, 2011 5:45 PM

Now that looks like a romp and a half.

Oh, my. I'm not sure what kind of crush I have on the character/the actress based on the header image alone, but I definitely have one.

Posted by: jgs at March 20, 2011 7:46 PM

Whoo. Thank you so much.

Posted by: Jerce at March 20, 2011 8:33 PM

Because mummy movies NEED more pterodactyls and boobs. Hoorah!

Posted by: Meander at March 20, 2011 9:49 PM

That was a really brief boob flash. Hardly worth finding and pausing on. What are we, 15?

Posted by: Uriah Creep at March 20, 2011 9:56 PM

I hate subtitles, but I think I am in.

Posted by: clancys_daddy at March 20, 2011 10:10 PM

Everything's better with boob on it on it.

Since this movie was already released in France, I did some quick research this weekend and saw that this scene goes on for long enough for there to be at least two whole boob shots in the movie. For those who can't shake the header picture from their sex-brains, Louise Bourgoin was also in a film called The Girl From Monaco, which is on Netflix View Instant. I can not speak to the quality of said picture, but it's there, and she's almost as gorgeous as a blonde.

Can't beat Luc Besson film + pterodactyls + boobs.
Love his focus on strong heroines (except The Messenger, cause that was a bit of an overwrought mess) and pitch perfect balance btw blockbuster & gravitas.

I totally bought a bootleg copy of this recently. The subtitles were shit but the dub was surprisingly good. The movie was everything I love about movies. Plus boobs. And pterodactyls.

Tough luck for Adele getting knocked off the No. 1 spot but it's no shame to lose it to a band like the Foo Fighters! Yay!
