In a True Testament to Cee Lo, Not Even Gwyneth Paltrow Can Screw Up His Song (Too Badly)

So, that butthole Gwyneth Paltrow is going to be on the buttholin’ “Glee” this week, and she’ll be singing. I’ve ultimately and reluctantly come around to the fact that Paltrow actually has a decent voice — she just lacks the attitude and swagger for country music (and anything resembling the socioeconomic background to be singing a song called “Country Strong”).

Now, she’s turned her attention to Cee-Lo, and the greatest song of 2010: “Fuck You,” edited for “Glee.” Again, I’ll give her the voice, but once again, the attitude and swagger lacks to such an amazing extent that it’s near-damn embarrassing. I mean, come on: Goop Lady. Could you fucking be anymore white? And square? Dear God, she is square.

Still a great song, though. Not even Gwyneth can completely ruin it.

I would have preferred the version Cee Lo sang on The Colbert Report.

Fox News. Scans perfectly.

I'm so sick of those buttholes on Glee. That butthole, like my promdate, is sloppy and smelly now.

That's the first time I've ever watched anything to do with Glee and dear god was that painful. That crack about GP being 40 was said by a woman that looked 30 trying to pretend she's 16.

Dude, Gwynie can sing. I like her singing voice. And Gwynie doesn't ruin stuff -- she Goops them.

Christ. Watching Gwyneth Paltrow 'having fun' just made me feel really, really sad.

Posted by: Caspar at November 12, 2010 10:19 AM

Hmmmmm, Rachel seems to hate her and that makes me like her. . .canny, Glee people, very canny. Also, LOOK HOW HAPPY KURT WAS TO DANCE WITH HER! I just want Kurt to have nice things!!!

Posted by: coveredinbees at November 12, 2010 11:08 AM

Hee. She's like your uptight aunt trying to be hip.

And, in the same way, I find her endearing. And she doens't have a terrible voice. She's just very, very white. I want to be her friend.

I silently watched the clip. Lea Michele is obviously all "great...we just got cancelled....I'm gonna be on Dancing With The Stars in a year".

oooooooo snapnhiss! Snap, and, hiss, giirrrllll!!!

Y'all know that Paltrow does the karaoke circuit, right? She has a more than decent voice, and I never knew until becoming a regular on this site that people didn't really like her. Yeah, she's super white bread, but so was my summer fling guy, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

when you mix pure white into anything, you get pastel. shame.

Posted by: replica at November 12, 2010 11:42 AM

Actually it was the rest of the cast making me cringe, I'm sure she can sing just fine.

Posted by: Jay at November 12, 2010 11:51 AM

I can't get behind her on this. Her voice, even if it is decent, isn't fit for this song. No amount of Autotune would have made it seem natural for her to sing a Cee Lo song.

Jesus Christ Glee. I love you to pieces, but do you have to sing EVERY popular song this season? How long before Artie wheelchair-struts down the hallway singing "Cooler Than Me"?

Posted by: Annie_Reckson at November 12, 2010 12:17 PM

Oh god. I keep coming back to it - it's like a sexy car crash, I can't stop watching.

My new favourite cringe moment is when she shouts, "Hit it!" The band should all have refused to play until she said, "Or as white women of my age say, "Off we go!""

Posted by: Caspar at November 12, 2010 12:25 PM

Autotuned. To. Hell.

Posted by: Robert at November 12, 2010 12:52 PM

OK. At 0:40, she does the robot?
How adorable!

Posted by: Odnon. at November 12, 2010 2:04 PM

God, I hate that fucking song.

And the only way I would have liked this was if she'd have brought RDJ with her. He sings. Would it kill him to show up on Glee too?

Posted by: *Circe* at November 12, 2010 2:06 PM

Hm.

I actually like GP. I've only seen her in...two things maybe, but I like her.

I find it hilarious that a lot of people are all, "o mi god, stop with all the popular songs!" when it's the first time I'm hearing of them. So, I don't mind really.

But that's probably just for the demographic they're going for. Those songs are popular for a reason...I guess.

While watching the video, rather than trying to enjoy Lady GoopGoop's singing or mediocre dancing, rather than lament the horrendous levels of autotune involved (amen Robert), rather than being annoyed at yet another Rachel pout fest when she feels threatened by another female singer...I was thinking about the inappropriateness of the fact that Lady GoopGoop hopped up on that piano in that tiny skirt in front of a room full of high school students. Then I remembered who Lady GoopGoop really is, and realized she's probably wearing some sort of organic seaweed Spanks that only cost $500 at Douchey White Folks 'R Us.

I think this is cute. And I'm not sure what you're saying about "Country Strong". She sings it for her new movie, where she's playing a role. Sometimes actresses play roles that are opposite of themselves.

I'm really on the fence about Paltrow. She can come across as such a pretenious twat-waffle but then she's so earnest about everything that it veers into endearing. I don't know, I just seem to have this completely inexplicable affection for her. She's kinda like one of those over-bred status dogs that are just a mess of neurosis and crumbling DNA, but you still want to give the bouncing little lunatic a pat.

Or maybe it's just that I'm like coveredinbees and I've been won over by Kurt's happiness. He's just adorable.

Posted by: ScienceGeek at November 12, 2010 10:53 PM

Do you people seriously think she has a good voice? You don't hear the GOBS of autotune dripping all over her vo? It might as well be a synthetic voice.

Posted by: James M at November 13, 2010 12:47 AM

I liked it, and I'm no big fan of GP. She surprisingly looked human and was having fun, plus she actually has rhythm. It did not suck. Who knew!

Posted by: Zahara at November 13, 2010 1:14 PM

I'm pretty sure she's supposed to be trying too hard to be (as my mom would say) "with it" - - I think I saw her in a pink beret in a preview with Sue, ha.
I'm not gonna lie, I watched it twice, I thought the clip was great. She's excellent at playing someone trying tooooo hard.

Posted by: mamoon at November 13, 2010 1:33 PM

only made it 46 seconds. is that good?

Posted by: maxpurr9 at November 13, 2010 4:59 PM

Fox didn't censor the song. She is just singing the radio edit. They sang the radio edits for "Empire State of Mind", and "Billionaire".
