I'm a Team Player!

Pick me, pick me! It’s time to start my UK film career. Do the soccer teams have cheerleaders? Water girls? Hangers-on? I mean, Beckham has Posh, surely Tennant should have…me. I’m not going on the plane though, I’ll be the girlfriend who stays behind to keep David’s underwear drawer tidy. Plus, I don’t want to be around for the sad part.

See, Tennant has signed on to play coach Jimmy Murphy in United, the story of Manchester United team, the Busby Babes. Murphy led the youngest team in the English league to victory twice before most of the team was lost in the 1958 Munich air disaster. The group was returning from a match in Yugoslavia and their plane stopped in Munich to refuel. When the pilot attempted to depart for Manchester, the runway was covered in ice and slush and on the aircraft’s third attempt to take off, it crashed into a building, leaving 23 people dead. Of that 23 were 8 of the Busby Babes.

Yes, it’s a sad, sad tale and poor coach Tennant will need someone to comfort him. I can hold him and caress him and lick the salty tears from his sweet cheeks.

Ahem.

Chris Chibnall (“Law and Order UK, Torchwood, Doctor Who”) has written the script and James Strong (“Law and Order UK, Torchwood, Doctor Who”) will direct United, his first time at the film helm.

It was actually a 1958 crash (but that may be a typo on your part). Technically Murphy was second-in-command. Matt Busby was the manager but Murphy took over while Busby was recovering from injuries sustained in the crash. Still, if done right, it could make for a great weepy movie.

Paddy, when we get gay married, will you teach me all you know about football?

Is your title perchance a reference to my favorite MST3K episode Time Chasers? I choose to believe it is. Bob Evil for life.

I swear that said, 'the Busty Babes'. I'd watch that over soccer, any day.

Oh, yeah, and obligatory "David Ten-inch a-hummina hummina hummina ahh-OOGAH eyes."

Of course, I also read 'Chris Chinball', which I wouldn't watch at all.

It's catchy and will look fetching on a jersey.

Will the film include Leeds United fans singing about the crash? If so, I know some excellent extras in the London area.

Yes Paddy, totally a typo. I also knew about the second in charge bit, but Busby has yet to be cast and they seem to be playing up Tennant's part. As you can see, that's just fine with me.

MUFUGHKH.
That was the sound I made when I saw that picture. Or really as close a written approximation of the sound as I can come up with. It was kind of a guttural...thing, and to the best of my remembering is not a noise that has ever come out of my body before. Hearing it was almost enough to shock me out of my stupor. Almost, but not quite.

esme, me too. We should start a choir. With grunting. And handbells.

it took me reading the name 3 times before I realized it was NOT Chris Chinball.

I third the dyslexic read of Busty Babes and Chris Chinball.
