I'll Have Mine with Extra Cheese, Hold the Clichés

“He was a legend born on the battlefield. One warrior caught between two worlds. I must go or you will all be in danger. Fellas like you and me, we don’t run. Ninjas, damn.” Wait, what was that last one? And who was saying it? That’s right, Geoffrey Rush, motherfrakkers. The Oscar winning actor is in this glorious cheesefest that, despite itself, looks to be a fun ride.

Rush plays a drunk in the small, western town where Asian warrior assassin Yang (Jang Dong-gun, Friend) is hiding out. Kate Bosworth (21) also stars as a circus knife thrower. Does any of this make the least bit of sense? No. But somehow this mash-up of martial arts, western and fantasy looks like it’ll be worth the ride.

The Warrior’s Way is written and directed by newcomer Sngmoo Lee and also stars Danny Huston (Robin Hood, Clash of the Titans) and Tony Cox (Disaster Movie) and is set to open December 3, 2010.

1) Bravo for a movie where the Asian guy gets the 'hot' white chick. 2) People still hire Kate Bosworth? People still know her name?! 3) That guy must have the most amazing hair flat iron. 4) Hell, I'll watch anything with Geoffrey Rush and that "Ninjas? Damn" line.

Is it just me, or does this appear to be "Lone Wolf and Cub" retitled?

Better than candy. I'm there!

Sngmoo Lee. That may be my new family name. How do you even say that? And is there any way to say it that doesn't amuse? Cause I don't think there is.

I think Rush might be my favorite actor.

also, i'm not sure samurai/ ninjas/ anyone who owns a katana would drag the tip through the gravel. Wouldn't that just destroy the famed edge?

Also, i like how the old west is used for mash up settings. all we need now is for a viking in the old west fighting a troll and looking for a steampunk mistress that did him wrong.

i think i just brainstormed my academy award winning screenplay.

Kate Bosworthless still has a career in acting? Really?

So weird and yet so compelling...

I love that music.
I might actually spend real money to see this

Johnny Von Awesome, yes, you have.

I will definitely see this. Hot ninja smackdown, old west, yes.

I particularly like the 'international superstar' moniker. It really rolls off the tongue...you ain't nothing until you're an international superstar!

You're just a local superstar, and frankly, local superstardom includes the likes of Charming Potato and Unwashed Twilight Guy. Sucks to be them.

The visuals are great, why the hell do they have to talk?

Posted by: Me at October 4, 2010 9:54 AM

"International Superstar" is just a code word for "well known in the places that don't actually matter".

Sngmoo Lee? Oh, Godtopus, I read that as Snooki.

Btw, thanks for the great site and commentary by all.
