If You Still Have the Patience for It, Here's the Full-Length Wolverine Trailer

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | March 27, 2013 | Comments ()

Congratulations to the marketing people behind Wolverine for their terrible trailer release strategy. After releasing a six-second tweaser (*gag*) on Monday, they released a 20-second teaser yesterday, and today they've given us the real thing, which would otherwise be great if we hadn't been fatigued by the tweaser (*blergh*) and the teaser already. Now it's not even about the trailer -- which looks OK, if not another end-around origins story -- it's about the silly marketing strategy and how we're already kind of bored with Wolverine.

Great move, guys!

In fact, there are international and domestic versions, but I'm just going to give you the International version, which is essentially the same, plus 20 seconds.

Look for the first 20 minutes of the film to be release tomorrow. Wolverine opens on July 26th.

    Over it.

If this trailer is any indication, they learned NOTHING from Origins. It looks as if this is the exact same plot, just in Japan. Logan is a wanderer, Logan is approached by someone who is supposed to be a good guy, is experimented on, things go poorly, finds out they are a bad guy, likely finds love along the way, fights more people on a train / motorcycle, wins. The only difference seems to be Lots of Ninjas.

Instead of making it a big budget blockbuster where the plot is there only to advance to the next action scene, couldn't they make it a gritty, plot driven piece, with action supplementing a great story. It's been done before. The reason batman saga worked is because they did this. Iron Man was more about Tony than about Iron Man, and avengers was driven by the relationships. They even had a great comic to map this story too. It doesn't take a film student to figure this shit out. This fucking studio. Until they learn this, they will continue to make sub-par comic movies.

"couldn't they make it a gritty, plot driven piece, with action supplementing a great story." How do you know they didn't?

That green lady looks straight out of Shumacher's Batman and Robin.

  • When Aronofsky was at the helm of this I was interested if only to see something that would be a complete departure from the other X-Men movies (based on my assumption that his sensibilities would necessitate that). When he left I lost a lot of that interest (and I'm not even a huge Aronofsky guy). Seeing this makes the movie seem like it will fit in perfectly with the rest of the franchise, which I don't think is a very good thing at all, even if X-Men 2 is still probably one of the 3 or 4 best superhero movies ever.

  • This looks terrible.

Meh... TRAILERS LIE and since we barely get a glimpse of Silver Samurai I'm still indifferent.

Side note: If his company can do anything wouldn't that also include saving his life?

  • phase10

Also, Wolverine wasn't made into mutant. He was only given the indestructible bone covering, so is this some sort of mutant cure?

I must have missed all the previous trailers for this. It looks kinda interesting. I never saw the other Wolverine movie. Do I need to see that to see this?

  • TherecanbeonlyoneAdmin

Only if you want to ruin the character for yourself forever.

  • poopnado

It's a great movie if you remove your brain. So I thought it was amazing! I'm serious. Go in with no expectations except that Hugh Jackman will look really sexy and Canadian.

  • Mrs. Julien

I'm doing that right now AND watching a movie.

  • Mr_Grumpypants

I think its a smart move to try and make Wolverine more vulnerable. An invincible superhero makes for a boring movie (Superman Returns, for example). Plus, I'm totally on board with Wolverine fighting ninjas and samurai.

  • Marc Greene

It doesn't look bad. I'll give it a shot.

  • Wicked

All I see is Hair, Sweat, Blood and Muscles, with the addition of a whole lot of grunting.

  • TherecanbeonlyoneAdmin

    So...typical Wednesday then?

  • Wicked

Pretty much, sans the hot guy with the hair, sweat, blood and muscles. Now the grunting... THAT'S another story.

  • Fredo

    Looks generic enough.

And I still think back fondly on Jackman's first outing as Logan in X-Men, when he seemed to inhabit that character. Almost 15 years later and it's no longer the same.

  • zeke_the_pig

Totally agreed. Back then it was mesmerising. Now it's starting to feel like a tepid post-London-drizzle puddle.
