If My Mother Looked Like This, I'd Probably Feel Sexually Conflicted As Well

It's time for an update on A&E's "Bates Motel." What's that, you ask? It's a television series prequel to Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Oh yeah, you say? Yeah. Someone is making that series. That someone is actually Carlton Cuse, the other guy on "Lost," that's not Damon Lindelof (poor Lindelof: Half the credit, but all the blame). It's more of a re-imagining, it turns out, than an actual prequel. How do we know that? Because in the prequel, the formerly only-child Norman Bates will have a "motorcycle-riding, rebellious, James Dean-like brother Dylan." He will be played by Max Thieriott.

Norman Bates has been cast, too. It's a familiar face: Freddie Highmore. He should be familiar, anyway, from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Finding Neverland, albeit he is older now. Stupid aging.

Spot-on casting. Poor Highmore: He's got a gawky serial killer look about him. But the best part? That the series will explore Norman's relationship with his mother, Norma, and offer a look at his backstory that helped forge the infamous serial killer. His mother? Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga.

That's a heavy-weight cast for an A&E cable show, which has recently found success with original scripted drama Longmire. I don't know if "Bates Motel" will ultimately be any good, but it's good to see that A&E is making an effort to compete somewhat with the likes of FX and AMC instead of filling their entire schedule with "Storage Wars" and "Hoarders."

Holy god did Freddie grew up to be creepy.

  • Jezzer

Wasn't there already a Psycho prequel, with Henry Thomas?

  • Purplejebus

I thought that pic of Max was the Bieb.

In the future, please end your post with the picture of the lovely Vera. It's extremely frustrating to have one's dodgy fireman rubbing ever so gently on the underside of one's desk only to have it run screaming for fire hall moments later.

Dustin, if your mother looked like that it would leave you AND your father sexually conflicted.

  • Dustin would have killed his father by now - he's so Shakespeare!

  • L.O.V.E.

Lets not turn this into a Doors song.

  • Yeah, I know what you mean about conflicted - like, I wanna fuck her, but that colour combination is not working sweetheart.

  • Fabius_Maximus

Weren't you the one who was turned by Jessica Chastain's ghastly look in Mama?

Maybe there's just too much color in the above picture?

  • Actually, usually I love loads of colour. Maybe it's this half-way, indecisive shit. Either give me monochrome hotness or fiery red Almodovar hotness, but not washed out, run in the rain hotness.

  • Indeed that was me. Hell I dunno... There's no formula... Sometimes the washed-out look works, sometimes it don't.

  • Brown

Wanna know how I know your gay...

  • L.O.V.E.

    Knock, Knock.
    Whose there?
    Your gay?
    Your gay who?
Dr. Grigori Yourganov. I am Russian Mathametician.

  • Jezzer

    Your gay what?

  • Mavler

L.O.V.E. wasn't the one saying he was conflicted about fucking her. (Aside: It's Vera Farmiga! I will go to Costco and get all the crackers Vera wants to eat in my bed and then feed them to her.) We need to give more credit to men for appreciating a woman's ability to accessorize. No way the future mother of my children is gonna have a handbag that doesn't go with her shoes or earings!

  • Sara_Tonin00

Just last night I saw the Paul Rudd Madden 2013 ad, and I said I'd like the commercial so much if it was "know how I know you're gay..."

  • Groundloop

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree zeke. Normally Vera Farmiga does nothing for me, but if that was the only picture I'd ever seen of her I'd be asking "Who is that haunting beauty?"

  • Xulux

Casting pearls before swine--er, zeke the pig.

  • L.O.V.E.

Sorry, zeke, but you are so very wrong. the red of the stockings with the red of the lipstick, in conjunction with the neutral coloring in the middle, frames the two erogenous zones -- thighs and chest. Further, the dress plays off the colour of her eyes. It is very well done, actually.

  • See, I hear your theory, and in theory I agree with your theory, but it's just not doing it for me. Now, in every single scene in The Departed on the other hand...

  • Fredo

    Mother
Tell your children not to walk my way
Tell your children not to heed my words
    What they mean
    What they say
    Mother

I think...I think the title of this post /might/ make your mom feel a little bad.
