I Think This Relationship Is Going to Be Toxic

Tonight’s the night Conan O’Brien will finally speak out on the whole late night debacle with NBC and Jay Leno. His prohibition is up and he’ll be making his first television appearance in an interview with Steve Kroft on 60 Minutes (CBS, 7 pm EST). I don’t think anyone is expecting any major personal attacks against either the network or Leno, and from this interview snippet, it seems Coco is choosing his words with thought and care. Hopefully he walks away from this with his head held high, not a victim but rather someone who has made the best of his circumstances and with the last laugh. After all, he did end up with $40 million and a new late night show airing on TBS in November.

Team Coco!

I can't handle Conan looking like he's about to cry. (Also: That blue shirt brings out his blue blue eyes... *siiigh*)

Conan's beard is my favorite. Here's hoping he keeps it.

Same here Amanda, his Inside the Actor's Studio was awesome, he's so honest and a great person.

With the full beard he looks like somebody else, can't think of who.

He looks a bit like Walter "This man has no dick" Peck.

He's a bit Obi-Wan Kenobi there. I kinda love it.

His beard really is amazing, and surprisingly flattering. He should keep.

My mother has the uncanny ability to call right when there is something on I really want to watch. I missed the whole goddamn thing, but I had to talk to her about something.
Frick.

Good for CBS & '60 Minutes' in trying to convince the viewing public that they still sustain any semblance of relevance or import in opinion of what's happening in the entertainment world, much less the world at large anymore. Shit, when my 74-yr-old daddy can't recall a memorable or interesting moment in the program at dinner the next day, not even from the usually-reliable Andy Rooney, I don't need to keep up with it myself to be aware on its ever-progressing suckiness.

This subject was only interesting, and curiously fascinating, while it was happening; tonight's interview was a tedious and predictable confirmation of just that.

There wasn't a single comment from Conan that anyone who's only marginally followed the story could be surprised at: nothing was said that hasn't already been printed, and quoted, and continuously regurgitated by the press.

Nice try, '60 Minutes', but this 'timely' interview was old news before it even aired.

And I think it's safe to say we're all pretty much sick of Conan's $40-million 'sob story'. He's no fun to watch when he's not being funny, no matter that Leno gets away with it regularly.

Here's part one of the interview, so you can see first hand if you agree with Les.

Part 2 is around those parts as well.

I watched firsthand.

I agree with Les. It was a big nothing. It did, however, run long enough to bump Andy Rooney, so ... win.

Conan looks great. Unfortunately, Steve Kroft looked like he was on a two week bender!
