I Gotta See a Man About His Boy and His Horse

In the last year or so, Steven Spielberg has been attached to more films than a projector reel. Among the films he’s considered as his follow-up to The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, which is now in post-production, are (among others):

  • An Abraham Lincoln biopic

  • A George Gershwin biopic with Zachary Quinto in the lead

  • A Martin Luther King Biopic

  • A movie about the trial of the Chicago 7

  • A remake of Harvey

  • Interstellar, an exploration of physicist Kip Thorne’s theories of gravity fields, wormholes, and several hypotheses

  • The 39 Clues, about the globe-trotting adventures of a powerful and mysterious family known as the Cahills

  • Indiana Jones 5

Spielberg has finally landed on his next project, You’d imagine if he passed up all the above opportunities, the project he chose is going to be huge, right? Spectacularly so, huh?

Not so much. Spielberg’s next film will be War Horse, the adaptation of the Michael Morpurgo novel about a boy and his horse. It’s set against the “sweeping backdrop of The Great War” and the storyline “charts the extraordinary friendship between a boy and a horse who are separates but whose fates continue to intertwine over the course of World Word I.”

A boy and his horse movie? I think I’d just as soon see the further degradation of the Indiana Jones franchise.

    Take that back right now.

I saw the stage adaptation of "War Horse" in London, and while the staging was really awesome, the story itself was predictable. So I'm not really sure what to think of this.

Oh, thank Godtopus, Part I. For a moment I thought he was going to film Equus. EW!

Oh, thank Godtopus, Part II. For a mement I thought he was going to film "A Horse and His Boy," which is one of the Narnia stories by C.S. Lewis. It put me to sleep and caused me to NOT read the rest of the Narnia stories.

The title of this post misled me to believe that Spielberg was adapting The Horse and His Boy, the 3rd, most racist, and my personal favourite Narnia book. This would have been great news.

That picture makes me do a double take every time I see it because it looks exactly, and I mean *exactly*, like an old friend of mine. And I think Harry Potter is pretty hot in that picture, which makes me think of my friend in ways that leave me uncomfortable. And once again, I'm a little disturbed.

And I thought he was turning the Enumclaw documentary into a drama.

I heard about Warhorse on NPR the other day. Sad to hear the storyline was predictable, although I'd love to see it, if only for the horse puppets.

Ling, that is the 5th book in the Narnia series.

Between that header pic and the list of gingers, you guys are tickling my inner-fangirl. Shame on you for fanning the flame!

Not so much. Spielberg’s next film will be War Horse

My sleepy brain read that as "War Whores", which sounds much more interesting.

    SJP's in this too?

    (SOMEone had to.)

Those all sound shitty or boring. Except maybe Interstellar, but there's no mention of a story as such.
