How Do You Replace Steve Carell on "The Office"? How About Rick Sanchez?

In case you were living under Rick Sanchez’s undercarriage over the weekend, you probably heard about CNN firing him for calling Jon Stewart a bigot and suggesting that the media is run by Jews. Steven even wrote eloquently about it yesterday. The comments occurred on a Thursday, and Sanchez was fired on Friday, and we all had to spend the entire weekend waiting to see how “The Daily Show” would handle it.

As you’d expect, Stewart handled it with humor, a little self-deprecation, and a lot of good-humored restraint (limiting himself to only one Dirty Sanchez joke). Hell, he even threw Sanchez a bone at the end of the segment, conceding that Sanchez is likely not a bigot so much as a guy who is too dumb to know what he’s saying. But the best part? The spot-on bit comparing “The Office’s” Michael Scott to Sanchez.

As a follow-up to this, we have also learned from The Wrap that Rick Sanchez, whose wife blamed the rant on the “exhaustion” of spending three hours on air a day, has apologized personally to Jon Stewart. In fact, he did so before last night’s “The Daily Show” aired. Stewart was apparently gracious, and called Sanchez “thin-skinned.”

I like how Rick Sanchez had endorsed Colbert's March to Keep Fear Alive before all of this mess occurred. Maybe we'll get to see him get tasered by Colbert after all.

Stewart struck the perfect tone. He took the high road and knew not to flog a dead horse.

I'm attending Jon Stewart's Rally to Restore sanity on Oct 30th. Let me know if anyone has any good sign ideas!

DXM had a good write up on the Rick Sanchez thing, I'm not currently following the Daily Show (too much to do, not enough hours etc) so I'm not completely sure what went down to set Sanchez off.

scorzi:,

Select something that Scully suggested (alliteration?). They're all great, but "Paved Roads Are Socialism" is easily the most relevant to the occasion.

Posted by: superasente at October 5, 2010 12:27 PM

I've quoted you all on my Facebook page.

Posted by: Maryscott O'Connor at October 5, 2010 12:28 PM

me too.

Posted by: Stella at October 5, 2010 1:23 PM

Yes, I thought "Paved Roads Are Socialism" was the stand-out of Scully's list.

Posted by: Stella at October 5, 2010 2:05 PM

Excellent sign ideas, " I spell check my political rage" is outstanding.

Don't mess with the Jews. Did you people even read the New Testament?

"I Was The First Child Left Behind And All I Got Was This Lousy Sign"

This is my personal favorite.

I'm going to the rally as well. My sign is going to read, "Sandwiches Are Tasty."
Because they are.

"Protest Signs Are An Ineffectual Means Of Communicating My Nuanced Views On A Variety Of Issues That Cannot Be Reduced To A Simple Pithy Slogan"

That's definitely worth a round of applause.

I live in NoVa. I'll be there. With an as yet undecided upon brilliant sign.
