Hey, Andy did you hear about this one?

I’m not sure what Joaquin Phoenix has been up to and I’m also not sure I care. Last we saw, I think he was being a dick to Letterman or on his infamous rap tour. And, in case you hadn’t heard, his brother-in-law Casey Affleck was filming him. Billed by some as a mockumentary and by others, a documentary (no one seems to be able to figure out whether Phoenix is serious or not), I’m Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix has been picked up by Magnolia and is set for a September 10th release.

Back in May, the Los Angeles Times reported that buyers who saw the film were greeted with Phoenix snorting cocaine off a hooker, rapping, plenty of male frontal nudity and someone defecating on Phoenix while he’s sleeping. And though they’d never seen anything like it, they still couldn’t figure out whether it all was a put on or real. To me it just sounds like Phoenix is trying too hard; Andy Kaufman set the bar kind of high — you know?

But it's been 30 years since Kaufman, might as well have something wacky happen.

Sad to say,but I wonder if there is an expiration date on sanity. And/or the Phoenixes.

I never thought I'd say this about a Phoenix, but I don't think I care anymore. River had a talent; the rest of them ... I don't know. They are somewhat like the Jacksons that way, only a different sort of crazy.

"being a dick to Letterman"

You mean being an ever bigger dick than Letterman already is? Not possible.

Affleck's his brother-in-law? I never knew Joaquin and Ben got married.

It's so weird to me that Casey would go along with this crap, he's much more talented than Ben of course. But Joaquin will probably never be taking seriously again, he's in Mel Gibson territory minus the swearing.

If, after seeing the movie, they still don't know whether Joaquin is joking, I'd have to say he succeeded. I miss Andy Kaufman, and if JP wants to pick up the mantle -- well, I'd like to see what he does with it. I like when someone tries to hold up a funhouse mirror to our culture's celebrity obsession, and he's as good a choice as any to give it a shot.
