He's Alieeve!

Remember Val Kilmer? He doesn’t quite look like that header picture anymore, but that’s how I’m choosing to remember him. And I’m not going to make fun of his more recent photos; let’s just hope he’s taking better care of himself these days, especially since he’s going to hit the big screen again. In fact, according to IMDB his slate’s pretty full. Is it just me who hasn’t noticed him since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? The only bits of news the past several years have been either political or derision over his ever-changing changing looks, so it’s actually heartening to see him taking on a role with a noteworthy filmmaker. And speaking of missing persons, where the hell has Francis Ford Coppola been hiding? Did anyone catch his last film, Tetro? Seems like the time is ripe for a double-comeback though I think Coppola already earned a lifetime pass.

Deadline is reporting that the two are working on horror/thriller, Twixt Now And Sunrise, based on a short story Coppola penned himself. The director reportedly sought out Kilmer for the role of a horror novelist and the two have already begun filming. The only other details at the moment are in the form of Kilmer’s costars: legendary actor, Bruce Dern (currently starring in HBO’s “Big Love”) and Elle Fanning (Super 8, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

There’s a lot of potential in this collaboration. It would be great to see Kilmer pick up his jowls and dust them off, show us a little bit of the old Iceman cockiness and the solid acting of Tombstone and The Doors. Anything would be better than the Top Gun 2 rumors - I mean, who the hell would want to be Tom Cruise’s “wingman” now?

"I think Coppola already earned a lifetime pass."

Sorry Chief, people who make The Godfather III don't get no lifetime passes.

I'm pretty sure any film called "Twixt Now and Sunrise" must star Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

Coppola gets the pass. The Godfather Part III is very underrated, and the first two are better than most ten movies put together. Even if you think the third one sucks, you can't cancel that magnitude of greatness out.

Kilmer also gets the pass. Chris Knight and Doc Holliday rule.

Spartan.

Good, get the SOB out of New Mexico for a while. His neighbors will be so pleased.

No, no it isn't, search your feelings deep down you know this to be true.

What are you guys talking about whith this supposed Godfather III ? There is no such film!

Right?!? I mean, right?!? Oh, god, why, FFC, why???

Whew - excuse me. I'm just going to go back to pretending that "movie" doesn't exist.

Really? I thought Val Kilmer died this year. You sure it wasn't him?

I'm pretty sure any film called "Twixt Now and Sunrise" must star Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.

Good call! This probably is a rule. Or should be, at any rate.

Regardless of III, the other two alone are enough to earn the pass. Hell, Apocolypse Now is enough for me.

First of all it's "irregardless" and second, Godfather II pretty much destroyed most if not all the goodwill those 3 films had earned him. THAT'S how awful Godfather III is, Cynthia.

Posted by: BarbadoSlim at October 26, 2010 6:23 PM

I disagree, Barbadothia.

Reba do you live in NM? I read the one main story in the ABQ journal, and got the feeling like I wasn't getting the whole story. It felt too scripted to just be hollywood asshole is causing issues with neighbors.

Goodwill from Godfather I&II + Apocalypse Now + The Conversation >> Damnation from Godfather III.

Also I'm pretty sure irregardless isn't a word :)

Top Secret!

'Nuff said.

We, the world, are owed a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang sequel.

e - I don't live in NM, but a dear friend has the place directly up the mountain from Val. His unpopularity has nothing to do with stardom (heck, they tolerate Russell Crowe when he's in town), but the fact that he was generally a dick when he arrived, and has not improved much. Also, not exactly a good caretaker of the land, which tends to irk the locals. If he started acting like he gave a shit about what was going on around him, they might let up. They're generally a laid back lot.

Kilmer's NM ranch is for sale on Craigslist right now. $23m. Looks like a real listing.

Barbadoslim...... Irregardless isn't even a word. Look it up. It's mainly used by ignorant people trying to look smarter...

Posted by: Jason at October 27, 2010 7:23 PM

Absolutely; "irregardless" is NOT a word...and it's like fingernails on a blackboard to hear it used! "The Godfather" is arguably the best film ever made, and part II was a great film as well. Part III was not up to the standard of the first two, but definately watchable. Val Kilmer gave us some of the best performances of the 90's, in such films as Heat, Thunderheart, Tombstone and The Doors. It would be great to see Val working again with a good director on a good story.
