Here's Your Very Interesting Marvel/Netflix Rumor of the Week

A month or so ago, Netflix, Marvel and Disney announced they’d all be ganging up on New York City to film five series, featuring Defenders characters Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. Obviously that set off the infamous World Internet Casting Bureau (aka all of us), and then someone claiming to be “close to the production” said showrunner/executive producer/writer Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods, Lost, Alias, Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Netflix were eyeing Dexter star Michael C. Hall.

The rumor made its way to Hall himself, and now he’s publicly made a statement that on the surface might not mean much, but the last bit about the script sounds like a coy way of saying he’s expecting to see it:

“I’ve heard them, but I think that’s all they are — rumors…Don’t misunderstand, I would definitely consider it … but I can’t tell you any inside information, because I think they’re nothing but rumors.”

“I really am enjoying mixing it up a little bit, and I’m committing to things that have a foreseeable end in sight when I start them…but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of [a new series] happening at some point. But I’d have to read the script!”

The interesting thing about the idea is that in his own way, Dexter really was a kind of dark comic book figure. Dexter fed his need to kill by seeking vengeance against “worse” killers, and he had a pretty nifty ability to sneak up on the bad guys and knock them out with a single needle to the neck. It’s not too much of an imagination stretch picturing Hall’s transition to the Man without Fear, in fact, I daresay he’d be a darned good fit. But I’m not the big comic geek authority around here…so I’ll leave this right here for y’all to weigh in.
