Here's the Final Hunger Games Poster. Until the Next One

The studio says this is the final Hunger Games poster, but the movie is not due out until March, so I’m guessing there will be at least four more, plus an array of character posters, a Hunger Games banner, and six motion posters. But you know what? I don’t care. Bring it all. I love all things Hunger Games.

And here are a couple of still images from the movie because, shut up. That’s why.

Why do I have the strangest, most ineffable feeling stirring deep inside of me that this film is going to thoroughly suck?

I've never read the books, but I don't think that has a part to play in anything.

I loved Jen Lawrence in Winter's Bone because who didn't, but since then I've begun to suspect she might be a bit of a bint, so that kinda cancels out.

Fuck it; must be that guy's fucking vagchin and impossibly furrowed brow staring me in the face like an incredibly confusing proposition.

I'm mostly nervous about the casting. Other than Jennifer Lawrence (who's the perfect Katniss), everyone else seems like an odd fit to me, especially Peeta. I've seen that kid before. I'm not excited to see him again.

Posted by: ChristianH at January 20, 2012 10:54 AM

Right but Lenny Kravitz as Cinna is perfection.

The Peeta casting also throws me off. However, if I were still the kind of person who camped out for days to get tickets (Joe Walsh and Elton John at Dodger Stadium in like 1975), I'd be lining up for tickets to this. I think I'm all amped up because I read this book aloud to my husband and kids, a chapter a night, over Christmas vacay. We LOVED it. Katniss is up there with Lara Croft on my list of girl crushes.

Also, the kid playing Gale? MEOW...in an uncomfortably too young for me kind of way.

Okay, so Katniss is sponsored by Adobé. Lots and lots of Adobé. Fine.
But what the hell is Peeta wearing in that last picture? Why does it remind me of David Bowie in 'Labyrinth'? Is it just me, or is his head really small?

Questions...

Posted by: Rooks at January 20, 2012 11:23 AM

I've read the books and think that everything I've seen thus far looks really promising...except the Peeta casting. Hope he's a really, really good actor because in all the stills he looks a bit...dim? Dull? Something off-putting that I can't quite name.

Posted by: sherry at January 20, 2012 11:26 AM

I've read the first two books. I think the first one will make an excellent film for the first 3/4 maybe.

Spoilers abound

I'm just a bit nervous because, well, the ending of the first book was pretty terrible. In fact, scrap that. It was downright rage-inducing awful. We have a real story with real challenges and real dilemmas for decent characters (although I'll admit the whole 'I could never kill...except for her and her and him and her....' thing was a stretch)... and out of nowhere it's like BAM! WEREWOLVES!

I mean, seriously, the book had me rolling my eyes. On film, the badly CGI-ed wolf creatures with human features are going to flat-out suck. And any moviegoer who hasn't read the book will not see them coming, because it's just such a cheap way to create a dramatic finale.

Aside from Peeta, I'm impressed with the casting though. Katniss is perfect, Haymitch is inspired and I would never have predicted him, and Effie is a great choice.

I totally see the David Bowie likeness and it's working for me, Rooks.

I cannot WAIT to see this movie!

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at January 20, 2012 11:30 AM

Oh, and Cinna. Wonderful choice.

Y'all, I'm still not sold on J.Law for Katniss. I think she's a talented actress, but she Katniss is small, scrappy, and defensively angry. J.Law seems too tall and scared.

Posted by: Donut Plains at January 20, 2012 11:44 AM

He kind of reminds me of Joffrey. It is probably because his eyes are too close together.

Klingonfree, I kept picturing Nestor Carbonell as Cinna but was pleasantly surprised they chose Lenny Kravitz. The fandom has irked me though, having issues with people of color being included in the casting. Even Rue! One guy said he saw her as red- haired and freckled. I just wondered what book HE was reading. I enjoyed the book series a whole lot more than the Twilight series. I'll be curious if the films explode the way that one did.

Posted by: Shazza at January 20, 2012 11:54 AM

@Shazza, I, too, picture Nestor Carbonell, but generally I picture him doing things that cannot be described in a young adult novel.

Bat Man WELL indeed.

Posted by: klingonfree at January 20, 2012 11:56 AM

So, they're using Shinzon's left over wardrobe from Nemesis? Gotta save money somewhere, I suppose.

Really? I must frequent a different corner of fandom than you've seen. Most of the kvetching I saw was over Katniss being cast as white, given her description as olive-complected in the book.

Read the books, I'll watch the movie. But looking at pictures I'm just excited that Lenny Kravitz is about to light those kids on fire.

Posted by: ShagEaredVillain at January 20, 2012 12:07 PM

I love that you guys pictured Nestor Carbonell for Cinna. I always pictured Rufus Wainwright. I have no idea why.

Posted by: MelBivDevoe at January 20, 2012 12:45 PM

Perhaps it's just me, but I always thought that Peeta was kind of a knob anyway in the books. So this kid looks just right.

Posted by: Ghisent at January 20, 2012 2:13 PM

OMG THE COSTUMES. WE FINALLY SEE THE COSTUMES. Holy shit. I can't wait to see them on fire.

Also, I'm in love with Peeta's chin. That is one fabulous chin.

Posted by: figgy at January 20, 2012 2:15 PM

Huh, I think he looks absolutely perfect for Peeta. From what I gathered from the books, he's supposed to be really, really average. In looks, how he acts. Just unassuming and not spectacular, not scary, not intimidating. Like a baker's kid who no one expects to win. That's what that kid looks like. I think he's perfect.

Then again, we still have to watch him act. I'll be ready to eat my words.

Posted by: figgy at January 20, 2012 2:18 PM

I agree with Finny - Peeta is supposed to be this likeable kid, the sort of person that was well-liked and blended in in high school. I think the casting was perfect.

And Imma love seeing Woody as Haymitch.

Posted by: vdub at January 20, 2012 2:30 PM

Ugh, *figgy. Can't read/spell.

Posted by: vdub at January 20, 2012 2:31 PM

People with olive complexions aren't white? There are going to be a lot of surprised Italians when that gets out.

Posted by: snapnhiss at January 20, 2012 6:00 PM

The point was more that Katniss was written ambiguously, and there was hope that a non-white actress would have a chance at a starring role in a hugely popular franchise for once.

Posted by: Amanda6 at January 20, 2012 6:57 PM

I'm not sold on the Katniss casting either. I read the books after I knew she was cast, and for some reason, I had a lot less trouble liking Katniss when I imagined her as someone else-- maybe JL just looks too much like an adult, so I expect her to act like an adult and have a CLUE about what the FUCK is going on...

Sorry fans, but aside from saving her sister, Katniss sucks.

Posted by: chanohack at January 20, 2012 9:41 PM

Loved the books, love the casting(I really can't wait to see Jennifer Lawrence bring Katniss to life). I really can't wait to see the film. Katniss is awesome and in my humble opinion, the best female protagonist to come around in a long time.

I'm not even a Kravitz fan, but I can't imagine anyone better for Cinna. And just think what a glorious drunkard Harrelson will make! Also, Snow is brilliantly cast.

As for kids, I'm giving them a benefit of the doubt.

I was ecstatic when I heard they were making Hunger Games into a movie. Now, meh. I will go see it. But, I am Not At All impressed with their casting choices. Actually, in fairness, everyone is fine... except for Katniss and Peeta. Katniss only slightly bothers me. But Peeta. PEETA. SOOO wrong. His hair is so unnatural, specifically orange. And he's so central to the story. Why? WHY SCREW THIS UP? Alex Pettyfer. Now that was my Peeta. He would have contrasted beautifully to this movie's Gale (who is delicious). Anyway, not pleased. But then, nobody asked me.

Posted by: Caroline at January 21, 2012 12:32 PM

Sorry fans, but aside from saving her sister, Katniss sucks.

Oh boy.

Also, Alex Pettyfer? He would've ruined the movie, because the boy can't act worth peanuts. I'm not sure about Hutchinson, who's also starring in that godawful Journey 2 movie with The Rock, but I think he's a bit more redeemable that the "Failed to be an Action Star Like He was Marketed to be" Pettyfer.
