Here's the Delivery Man Trailer Because I'm a Sucker for Vince Vaughn and Chris Pratt

By Dustin Rowles | Trade News | July 3, 2013 | Comments ()

Yeah, it looks a little treacly and schmoopy. And yes, the premise -- a sperm donor who finds out that he is the father of 533 children goes out to be their "guardian angel" -- is silly. But damnit, VINCE VAUGHN IS MY KRYPTONITE. Also, Chris Pratt is pretty great, too. And look! Cobie Smulders is in it.

Oh, cut me some slack, OK? It looks bad, but in a way that I can't hate on it. I'M BROKEN.

I dont want to be a dick, but this is the exact copy of a french (canadian?) film from 2011. The trailer is cut exactly like the original one. I know, its not the first time this happend, just surprised by the extent.. anyways, looks entertaining!

  • flojnl

Actually this is a (pretty much shot for shot) remake of a French Canadian movie called " Starbuck " that was released last year . And as incredible as it may seems, this is actually based on a true story.
As for the original film, it was surprisingly charming and heartwarming. So of course they made an American remake. Although we're no better, because last I've heard, they're also making a French one... So thanks America for showing us how to turn a nice little flick into a bland familiar formula with zero subtitles !!

  • Nasty Nate

The plot seemed so familiar to me and then I realized that I had seen a preview for a French movie called 'Starbuck' in front of every goddamn indie movie that came out on DVD last year.

  • opiejuankenopie

THANK YOU! I could not remember the name of that movie! I've been meaning to watch it. Does anyone know if it is any good?

  • Yocean

I'm with you . I will very weak in my knee places.

  • TheOriginalMRod

Treacly and schmoopy indeed. And 10 bucks says it will make me cry.

  • tracey

    i'm with you dustin

  • Gavin Smith

    I'm in!

  • NateMan

I can't make fun of this movie. I want to, but I can't. It's an absurd storyline, and if it was actually attempted Vaughn would probably be arrested for stalking, and the idea that all these kids need someone looking out for them other than their parents, who clearly wanted them enough to go to a fertility clinic in order to make it happen is a little bit offensive.

But dammit, it looks sweet. And I find myself forced to look past its absurdity and logic fails and idiocy and just enjoy the idea of a father, who didn't even know he was a father, bending over backwards to make the lives of his kids that little bit better, without them even knowing it. How can I put that down? I can't. Because it's what a dad should do.

Dustin, we've all brought you here today because we care about you, we worry about you, and we want you to get better. Yes, this is an intervention. Don't worry, there's wine-in-a-can, but you have to admit that you have a problem. A Vaughn problem. And you have to get help.

  • Mrs. Julien

    [stands up, unfolds letter]

Dustin, I care about you. I wish only the best for you. When you speak approvingly of Vince Vaughn it makes me feel sad. I love and respect you. I want you to be happy. Watching you destroy yourself day by day is breaking my heart. I know that sometimes stewarding this site is challenging. It's hard for me to watch you struggle, but it can get better. We can help you, if you will let us.

    --- I'm sorry. I promised myself I wouldn't cry ---

I will always be your minion, but I have decided that, for now, I will have to overlord you from a distance. I cannot watch you hurt yourself any longer. Please don't let Vince Vaughn drive you away from us. Will you let us help you?

This is Mark. You can get up and go with him right now. He has a special room where you can watch Couples Retreat and Fred Clause on a loop. They can help you and they have HD. Will you go with Mark?

We love you and we will all be here for you when you return.

    Yours in Christ,

*bursts into room with loaded revolver*

Where the hell's that damn bastard?!

If this Vaughn sonofabitch is why we don't play nightcrawlers anymore, Dustin, I'm gonna start a goddamn grease fire!

  • Mrs. Julien

zeke, you are forgetting the guidelines we discussed. Dustin needs to know we care about him. Use "I feel" statements. Try this:

I feel like we need to find that damn bastard, Vaughn. [waving gun around] I feel that Vaughn is getting in the way of our chance to interact Dustin. I feel like he is a barrier between us. I miss our time together playing nightcrawlers. I feel the barrier can be removed with fire. Will you let me help you by starting a grease fire?

  • zeke_the_pig

I'm sorry, I just... I just get so choked up with rage, I...

    You're right.
    You're right.
Dustin, I...feel...that, as your friend, I have to tell you that I...feel...that you have lost control of your critical faculties, and, seeing this in you, makes me...feel...grease fire in your kitchen.

  • lamujabe

I have to delurk to say that this is one of my favorite comment threads ever.

  • Mrs. Julien

Welcome! I hope you choose not to re-lurk for some time. Keep baking soda on hand in case of a grease fire though.

  • zeke_the_pig

Cheers, lamujabe. Although I repeat that this is a serious, grease-fire-worthy matter, I welcome your delurking.

  • emmalita

If this exchange isn't on EE I'm going to start thinking there's a conspiracy.

  • Mrs. Julien

Can I quote you on that?

  • emmalita

    Please do.

  • NateMan

    You two are just awesome.

  • AnnaKendrick'sLoveMuffin

Are you sure it isn't the cases of unknowing incest that make it treacly?

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

I was about to come in with, "It seems to take place in New York City, so the odds of them running into and hooking up with each other are probably pretty small," but then I realized that IVF is generally expensive and thus significantly narrows the socioeconomic ranges involved, which makes it a little more likely. And there's a chance the Vaughn juice might mean they all sort of gravitate to a certain general range of intelligence and appearance and temperament (not that nurture isn't important, just this movie's obviously being biological) that might cause them to end up in the same kinds of schools and social circles.

So yeah, at least two of them will inadvertently hook up with each other. Presumably Vaughn will come crashing through a window to break it up.

  • Yocean

I bet the ones about to hook up before Vaughn interception to prevent future Joffrey would be named Luke and Leia.

  • Sara_Tonin00

IVF is expensive, but buying a shot of sperm to turkey baster into your uterus can be done for a c-spot.

  • NateMan

    I love that question.

I'm so glad I never banged anyone from my home town. Considering its small size, and the fact both sides of my family had lived there for several generations, I never really knew who exactly I was related to. It would have been awful to find out after. Just way too creepy.

  • emmalita

I think it's the music that makes it look treacly. The premise is inherently schmoopy, but we could all use a couple of hours of schmoop in our lives. It could be fun.

  • mairimba

Don't worry, Dustin. I've watched Four Christmases more times that I should admit and it's all because of the Vaughn. You're not alone.

  • DarthBrookes

What, no Solsury Hill? Come on trailer editor. You ALWAYS use Solsbury Hill in this situation.

Also, I think Chris Pratt was just about to break in that last scene.

  • Long_Pig_Tailor

Maybe it's become too expensive? Or trailer editors have placed a moratorium on its use? There's certainly an explanation for this. Barring some outside influence, you're totally right.

  • NateMan

We should be grateful it doesn't include the insane bass from Inception. They must be looking for just the right feel-good comedy to work that in.

  • DarthBrookes

Damn it. Got it the second time.

  • Foop

it doesn't look bad. It just looks not good.

  • Mrs. Julien

Was there a height requirement in the casting decisions?
