HBO's "True Detective" Teaser Starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson: Is It Too Early to Create a Season Pass?

There’s not much to the “True Detective” teaser itself, but any HBO drama good enough to pull Matthew McConaughey out of the movies at the peak of his critical favor, as well as Woody Harrelson and Michelle Monaghan, who is very pretty, has got to be worth watching.

It centers on two detectives, Rust Cohle (Matthew McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson), whose lives collide and entwine during a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. The investigation of a bizarre murder in 1995 is framed and interlaced with testimony from the detectives in 2012, when the case has been reopened.

Good enough for me. The eight-episode first season begins in 2014. Here’s the teaser:

Comments Are Welcome, Douches Are Not

It may just be because I just read the Melissa McCarthy article about the douchey reviewer who focused on her weight, but how is "Michelle Monaghan, who is very pretty" any better on the scale of singling out a woman's looks? There's not even a cliche reference to how McConaughey is somehow wearing a shirt here, to balance it out.

How about "Michelle Monaghan, who was so good in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang and Gone Baby Gone that it feels like we've been waiting for her to land this kind of role (and hopefully the critical acclaim to come) for ages"?

  • Less Lee Moore

Thank you. I caught that, too.

  • **I AM** NotTheOne

Wherever they filmed this I bet the pot dealers did a helluva lot of business.

  • Also, the McConaughey reminds me strongly of Desmond Harrington from Dexter in that Picture.

  • Bodhi

I am inordinately excited for this.

*Looks around carefully to make sure no one sees me*
*Inserts one earbud (so I won't be caught in case someone calls me)*
    *Clicks 'PLAY'*
    ...
    ...
    That's IT?!

    Fuck.

  • Homestar

Dustin, the first sentence is incomplete. "but any HBO drama good enough to" is what? Sorry for being annoying!

  • Ashley

I believe this is a one season thing. Like each year the show will have new characters and one director who will direct all the episodes. This year is mcconaughey, harrelson, and Cary Fukunaga.

  • e jerry powell

One inch snugger on the McConagPants and I might be forced to change my mind about the man.

  • Bert_McGurt

This looks promising. Woody is always a draw for me, and he's best with a buddy (like Misters Snipes or Murray). Can't hurt for him to work with one of his actual best friends.

  • Andrew

I bet vampires are behind it.

Louisiana. Multiple murders. 'True' in the title.

    Yeah, it's vampires.

  • Mihai Dricu

Speaking of that, did anyone else notice the footage from Six Feet Under and mostly True Blood opening sequences? It looked as if they are so early in pre-production that they didn't have footage of their own so they recycled whatever they already had in store.

  • I thought the same thing. There were a few shots in that promo that I swear were lifted from the True Blood opening credits.

  • Brent Reichenberger

For some unknown reason, I continually get these two mixed up. This will not help.

  • vdo86

Haha I was thinking that as well. Nice to know other people do that too.

  • Untamed

The similar bizarre hairpieces they are both wearing won't help.

  • ed newman

Absolutely! First thing I thought: Bruce Willis's wig man got a new client.

  • koko temur

Me too! They dont look anything alike, no idea why. Maybe its the laid back personality.

  • Huh. This looks amazingly good. I wonder if they're basing it on the serial killers that we had operating here in the late 90s and early 00s?

  • Dude. I think you may have responded to the wrong comment. I fail to see the correlation between serial killers and working at home. Also, STFU and crawl back into the hole you crawled out of. I'm tired of my comments being hijacked for your crap...
