If Felicia Day Has Been Cast in Joss Whedon's Avengers, the Franchise Just Got 42 Times Cuter

The good folks over at GeekTyrant have discovered, via a tip, that Felicia Day’s name has been added to the cast of The Avengers, according to IMDb. She’d be playing Abigal Brand, a character actually created by Joss Whedon in his comic series, Astonishing X-Men. According to Wikipedia, Brand is a commanding officer of S.W.O.R.D., a S.H.I.E.L.D. offshoot that deals with defending the Earth from extraterrestrial threats.

Although — as Geek Tyrant correctly points out — just because a name is listed on IMDb doesn’t mean it’s true. Someone could’ve made a few logical assumptions — Whedon’s history with Day (in Buffy and Dr. Horrible), for instance. Or maybe it was submitted by someone who knows. Who knows? Who really cares? For today — and maybe just the next few hours, until some buzz-killing dick with a movie blog refutes the rumor — we can at least hope, pretend, speculate and — most importantly — fantasize about Felicia Day in this suit:

Well, Joss probably needed someone to kill off during the movie, so you might as well go with what you know.

Seems a waste to turn a redhead into a greenhead, but at least I can satisfy my fetish for superpowered women with green hair. Now if only they would give me a She-Hulk movie.

Am I the only one that is rolling my eyes at this? Anyone?

Felicia day is adorably awkward and I love the Guild, but she has neither the acting range nor build to pull of a badass action superhero-type role. She is as skinnyfat as they come.

I dunno, can't they just give her a normal SHIELD uniform and some sexy tech glasses, and call here a Commander Codex or something? Wouldn't care if her hair isn't green, I just want her in the movie.

She's super sweet. I met her at SXSW and IRL she was adorable and kind. :)

I met her at SDCC, and she was the nicest celebrity that I met that year. Accommodating and charming, and super tiny. Like Keebler Elf sort of tiny.

That being said, I'm not sure she's a fit for the Avengers, as much of a fan as I may be. But Whedon has built cooler characters out of less, *cough*River*cough* so maybe it could work.

While I was hoping and hoping for this, I hate to burst the bubble, but she has posted on Facebook and Twitter that it isn't true.

Whedon has never been one to allow a woman's size (or lack thereof) to prevent him from casting them in action-oriented roles. To the point that personally I've gotten a little sick of it.
