Hannibalujah! NBC Finally Renews Its Most Delicious Series

By Cindy Davis | Trade News | May 30, 2013 | Comments ()

Can you hear my screaming, Pajibaland? Because I am screaming and…Dancying Madsly. Yes, after waiting far too long on pins, needles, knives, and other sharp utensils, we fellow sick and twisted lovers of the hottest cannibal to ever hit television can finally relax; NBC has officially picked up “Hannibal” for a second season. Mads only knows what took them so long—the show is smart, thrilling, terrifying and beautiful. Audiences are clearly enticed; the network noted “Hannibal” increased NBC’s target demo (18-49) by seventy-five percent. If you’re not already watching, here are a few appetizing tidbits.

Mads with Books:

Mads with Wine:

Mads with “Food”:

Mads in Beautiful Suits:

Thoughtful, Scruffy Hugh:

Scruffy Hugh Drinking Coffee:

Hugh in His Undies:

A Stag!

Why Yes, This Is a Human Totem Pole:

All that and enough blood, guts, hacking and decapitating to make you screech, scream and curl up into a ball (just don’t hide under the bed—there could be someone else waiting).

Series creator and showrunner, Bryan Fuller has plans for at least five seasons; here’s hoping we get to see them all.

Cindy Davis, (Twitter) is so happy she won’t have to kill and eat an NBC executive.

Comments Are Welcome, Bigots and Trolls Are Not

  • Meg

Thank fucking christ, waiting on this news was giving me a goddamn ulcer. Also, someone please tell me what that header picture is from because DAMMMNN.

  • RilesSD

YES!!!! and if NBC gives Fuller the seasons he needs (5-7), it's just going to get better.

  • Rochelle

The problem with watching Hannibal after marinating in Arrested Development, is that my responses have become whacked. After an interaction between Will and Lechter, I said "Will has the worst fucking doctors." And then cackled like Lucielle 1

  • Slash

Eh, maybe I'll give it another look. I wasn't all that impressed by the first one. I do like Mikkelson et al. (shrug)

  • ceebee_eebee

I nearly wept with joy and relief. THANK YOU, NBC!

  • TheOriginalMRod

    That is f-ing awesome!

  • John W

Where did that fourth pic come from? The 2013 serial killers calendar? Let me guess, June? Preceded by John Doe and followed by John Ryder.

  • It's got a little George Costanza thing going too, no?

  • John W

  • Captain_Tuttle

I'm way behind, but plan on catching up over the summer. I tried a Hannibal-athon, but couldn't hack it.

HUZZAH! I'm thrilled. After endlessly praising it, this is one of the few shows I've actually managed to draft friends into watching, and they all LIKE it! Usually they just tune me out and go back to their Big Bang and SYTYCD and what have you. But this show is simply a work of art, and though I'll never stop wishing it were on cable, I'm thrilled it's been renewed. MORE MADS FOR US ALL!

  • Nadine

This show. This show, you guys. And as concerned as we have been about possible guest appearanecs from previous Fuller alum, NER SPERLERS, I think it's safe to say he is not going to jam anyone down our throats and won't shy away from covering said alum in all the hideous make up and gore he can find. Aaaw yeah.

  • Pants-are-a-must

This show is my cupcake and I'm taking all my loved ones down the rabbit hole with me. Btw, the cupcake is people. So is the rabbit. (So is the hole)

  • AnusTart

Season 2 better have Hannibal kill a census taker.

  • toblerone

I'd like to say renewing Hannibal makes up for their renewing Community.

    It doesn't.

Let's hope the show, Dancy and Mikkelsen get some Emmy love.

    *Spoilers* GEORGIA!!!

And by next weeks preview if anything happens to Jaye I will be very unhappy.

  • toblerone

    Post Script:

Can we just pretend the 4th season didn't happen and redo the Greendale 7s final year (like it was some alternate timeline from Remedial Chaos)?

  • lowercase_ryan

Also you left out Caroline Dhavernas and Lara Jean Chorostecki. Stop hating Freddie, she's just doing her job =)

  • Anna von Beav

    UGH, Freddie.

  • toblerone

And you left out Kacey Rohl (and Gillian Anderson).

  • lowercase_ryan

eeew, she's like 14! and Scully isn't in it very much, but she is very pretty.

  • toblerone

Kacey is 24 (and Canadian which only multiples her hottest).

  • lowercase_ryan

Well she plays a kid so that's hard for me to get behind.

  • RilesSD

  • toblerone

Who was going off to college so she is at least 18.

  • lowercase_ryan

    FYI, I didn't downvote you.

Despite all evidence to the contrary I can take my facts like a big kid.

  • toblerone

I never thought you did lc_r.

Side note: The human totem pole is totally impractical. How did 73 year old Lawrence Wells manage to get it upright (he he) without help or a serious 4WD vehicle?

    And no one noticed?

  • cruzzercruz

I like how you're being downvoted for telling a basic fact.

"She's a child!" She's actually an adult. "She looks like a child!" She looks like and plays an adult.

  • lowercase_ryan

NBC execs would taste like shit.

That being said I am sooooooo happy. This is gonna be huge for Mads and the dude deserves it. Seriously if you guys aren't watching it you should give it a shot.

  • Zuec Mcguinnis

    fuuuuck yeah

  • Rochelle

This is like the fourth thing to make me tear up today - all tears of appreciation or gratitude. So happy!

  • eskiimomo

Hooray! Great show, was on tenterhooks to hear its fate.

  • ViciousTrollop

Finally NBC makes a good decision. Network television is lucky to have a show of Hannibal's calibre.

  • I have a think piece about it in half-finished form, so I'll be brief in my absolute elation with a single bit of summary praise. In my opinion, this is the best show on American network television right now, and is the best new show of the last year across the board.

  • kerokan

"Americans" is better. This is really good, too, though.

  • RilesSD

I just don't understand "The Americans." They've been "married" and spies for what, 10-20 years, yet they are having arguments like they just started. There is no tension. To each his own, but this is one of the few shows that I gave up on. Didn't even care to watch the final 3 eps.

  • I can't wait to read this.

I honestly can't believe a show this good made it on to NBC. It keeps blowing my mind (and terrifying me) every week. Tonight's was creepy as hell but that totem pole thing? Yikes. Brr. Gah. No.

But in a totally amazing way.

  • It is by far my favorite show right now, and I'm with you on best new show. Aside from the pretty, the two leads are fantastic actors and so well cast. Fuller's idea to let us see this relationship in its early stages was so smart; we get something new while leading into something we're familiar with. And it's all well done--they're breaking new ground for network television.

  • Blake

As long as they don't pull a Harmon and fire Fuller, which would be so NBC.

  • Pants-are-a-must

I don't think it will happen to Fuller anytime soon, since the main criticism against Harmon was that he was alienating and unorganized to the point of crying. Fuller, on the other hand, has a 5-season plan already and he is incredibly open and friendly, at least to the fans and media.

  • toblerone

Totes. It's tied for me with Orphan Black (mostly because of Tatiana Maslany).
