No great television success is complete without half a dozen copycat series completely diluting the novelty of the original, in this case The Walking Dead, which already has its own spin-off in the works, which will see another cast of survivors in another part of the world deal with the zombie apocalypse. Amazon also gave it a shot with a Zombieland TV series, which went nowhere, while a few others have found small success with superior shows to The Walking Dead (The Returned, In the Flesh).

Now SyFy wants in on the action, and hey! Why not completely destroy what little novelty there is remaining in a zombie television series by bringing in the production company behind Sharknado to tackle Z Nation. What’s the wrinkle in this premise?

<

em>Z Nation will pick up three years after a zombie virus decimates the country and follow a team of survivors tasked with transporting the only known survivor of the plague from New York to California, where the last functioning viral lab waits for his blood in hopes that a vaccine can be developed. But the survivor apparently hides a “dark secret” from the team of heroes.

I wonder if the survivor’s dark secret is that he was responsible for the zombie virus in the first place?

Anyway, if SyFy’s track record of late is any indication, then there will be lots of promotion for Z Nation, a few people will turn out for the premiere, and the show will run for three seasons even though know one you know watches it.

Doesn’t anyone else find it ironic that SyFy — the network best known for Battlestar Galactica — continues to churn out mostly bad facsimiles of better shows?
